Vaseline to release Carbon Fiber from surface?

Vaseline to release Carbon Fiber from surface?

Just curious if i can use Vaseline on the surface of what i'm laying the CF on to release it, i know it works with Fiberglass.

sure it will work but your finish wont be as nice. wax it real good with some carnuba wax and spray it lightly with a silicone based mold release

the texture of the vaseline will transfer itself to the part being made, you need your mold release to be as smooth as possible, unless you dont care about the part, then go for it

I just dont know how high heat rating the vaseline is good for, hope your parts dont end up sticking.

It's for a hood, i want a lightweight skin to pin down, i don't care about the texture of the mold because i'm actually not taking a mold, i'm basically making a sheet of Carbon Fiber in the shape of a hood, not an exact replica of what goes there.

Vaseline heat rating has to be very low. That stuff evaporates sitting in the sun

mold release wax is cheap, just buy some
it will be the cheapest part of your project
