My buddy took 1/8" aluminum and either screwed or rivited it in place. I think he screwed to the same places as the plastic. I know he used the plastic as a template. And then ised some RTV Black silicone in between to eliminate vibration. I know he got the aluminum from a sheet metal shop. Before installing he cut holes cut in the sheets for his speakers. Actually the shop did all the cutting for him on a plasma cutter. BUT I was not there for the installation of it all................

Aluminum would prob be better than wood but to tell you the truth for the amout of surface area the plate is going to span I would just use 1/8 to 3/16's inch plywood. I would prob also use weatherstripping instead of silicon being that if the plate ever had to be removed it would be easier but the seal would be just as good or better.

My prof installer made pods out of fiberglass for the speakers to sit in. A much cheaper way is to go to a stereo shop and get installer plastic. Remeber the Ohm drop diff in the Bose system, wire up the speakers and make sure there's enough juice to drive them (which I don't think so). Good lluck
