If Charlie_P will post up the manufacturer and the model numbers of the lights he is using then I could give you a definitive answer. He might have already done this but I do not recall.

Based on what I am seeing in the pics, I think he will get some improvement over stock but not much. "Modern" projector based technology is so much better than the stock units or what I am seeing in these pics it is a shame not to use them for this project. And then throw in the HID projector units I have detailed, these would be killer.

I have spent way too much time on the phone with Hella and the rallylights.com guys discussing all things lighting. The bottom line - you need to use projector units for the low beams to really improve the light.

I am happy to help charlie_p with this as it would save me from having to kick the body shop guys' a**es to complete the kit they were supposed to be making for me. I will be down meeting with them next weekend to see what is up but I am not positive they will come through.

Just want to reiterate you can't slap in a HID "upgrade" into a non-hid, non-projector housing and expect the light output to be good. It also will most definitely NOT be legal. You will blind the oncoming traffic for sure with this approach.

You also can't run 4 lights at a time and be legal here in the states. I almost went this route until I found this out. If you don't care about this, then put in two of these bi-halogen projector units into the lows:

The above will allow you to run the units as lows and then also as highs. You will need to sort out a relay for the lows to keep them on at the same time as the highs. I did this with mine.

Yes I see what you mean, but these are headlights for a bike, so they are intended as a beam light....not just random spot lights

I can look into those hella ones, but initially, they look bulky, and theres not much space to play around with. Having said that, I'm sure it could be done, but with people quibbling at £350ish, I cant see it being worth my time and money, changing the whole design to use the better lights.

My original intention was to make some better lights, for less money than the knightsports...which I have done

Ref to more pictures- I have been really busy, and standing in for someone away at work, I will get it done, but there will be no clearance issues since the light frames are based on the KnightSport frames....and they fit!

OKay, I get the point. We will agree to disagree :) You are correct, any time you use a projector style light it will be more bulky by nature of the projector. The light output is much much better though.

I wasnt disagreeing, I'm sure the projectors will be the best option!

All I'm saying is, sorting these out, has taken quite a few trips to the Blacksmith, money and time...and when someone on an English FD forum had the the cheek to offer £250 (about $350) for them which is less than a set costs the make.....it's really not worth my while doing the project again to work with the projector lights

Hell, anything is better than paying for the actual Knightsports pop ups, so in my opinion if you have to ask $400 - $600 for this, I'd still be in. I know this is not what some here would like to pay, but given the rarity and lack of vendors offering this, I still think it a bargain.

You've done a great job. I cant tell you how many times we've seen some one claim they're going to make a light kit and then fall short or disappear.

Congrats, it looks great. Can't wait to see the finishes product with light output shots.

400-600 for custom lights that fit isn't bad at all, as long as they are quality and still maintain the stock FD body lines. I dont like aftermarket crap that dont fit right. thats why I want to see more pics of them installed and finished. I dont want to see gaps with wires showing.

Ok- just sorting out getting some light covers/shrouds made, so shouldnt be too much longer before I have 2-3 sets ready to send.

Now there is a chance that I could do the light shrouds in carbon fibre, obviously the weave wont be perfect as I dont have a vacuum machine lol but will do a set and take pictures

Still waitng on pics of them installed completely and on (finally look and install)

no carbon fibre.. it will look cheep.. just black plastic will look the best like the stock ones.

Update- sorry it's taking so long, but just sourced the ball joint, will make the order tomorrow!
Hoping to have some lights together next week, and of course, fitted....I'll do pictures in a standard car to show shut lines fit well etc

They look to be the best option, but I've already got the bulbs and ballasts... was hoping I could buy just the projectors for ~$150ea instead of ~$550ea for the kits
