Turbo2 Audio Ideas
Im planning on getting a flip/detachable face which out some good quality power. so im all good with that.
since im not going for a sub becuase i already had one and it was stolen out of my car since the hatch doesnt really hide anything back there.
so im planning on installing really good rear speakers which will go in the stock shock towers.
what size and make 3 way speakers for the rear can give me great highs and decent lows for speakers alone.
also, what sze are the door speakers i have in my turbo2.
i know their round, im thinking their like a 4 inch round or so.
i already have front under the dash, so ill leave those and run the door speakers from the fronts.
thanks for any ideas,
mike

Re: Turbo2 Audio Ideas
Mike,
You can fit up to 8" in the towers, 4" in the dash and (I believe) 61/2 in the doors. You should be able to check from Crutchfield. (http://www.crutchfield.com).
I've been working on getting some nice (cheaper) 8 inch subs just for the midrange part (the towers don't have correct airspace for boxes plus their not sealed air tight). I'm looking at some smaller amps to run the midranges. Then for the door/dash I'm going with an orion component set (2 - 61/2", 2 4" with crossover). Now for the good stuff, the bass. What I'm fabriacating is a box to hold 3 10's and I'll still have trunk space and you won't be able to see it (black carpet, I've got a red on black 89TurboII).
I'm also getting 5% tint for the back glass window (smoked) just incase there is anything sitting back there. If you don't have a box that matches your carpet you probably should look into getting it tinted.
Hope all of this info helps ya.

hey just for refrence, i helped install 2 8" kicker free-air subs in the rear towers, we had to cut a hole in each one to provide enough air flow but after the 20 minute install, 20 minute large-bit drilling...it pounded like one decent enclosed sub. we made a small box that fit to the back of the trunk to hold the rear speakers...6x9 and for the front 4" speaks. this is not the place to cut corners! cheap speakers will never match up to the overpowering largers speakers comming from the back

Right now my door panels are sitting at the stereo shop awaiting a pair of Kicker resolution seperates 6". In the back Ive got Kicker 6x9 in boxes on either side of a Kenwood ws303 tornado 12" sub. I have a kenwood k316 (cheap I know but it was a gift) 728 4channel amp for the doors and 6x9's and a kicker 360(?) amp for the sub. It sounds good. And a sidwinder alarm
It is almost too much for my FC ...... did I say that? what was I thinking

so the door speakers in the turbo2 are 6 ich rounds and the rears i guess, since i dont wanna go 8 inch woofer.....a good powerful set of 61/2 inch round would put out good sounds and the 6 inch on the sides. i wont have alot of bass, but the quality of the sound would be good.
thats what im thinking.

In my 88 vert, it was what looked like a 6 inch. I would take ya pic of them, but I trashed them the surround was completely gone...
I installed Alpine DDD A series comp. 6 1/2 and tweet. I took the factory speakers and traced a spacer out of 3/4 MDF. You have to be right on the money when you install the spacers/speaker combo or else the surround will be hitting the door panel. So Id almost recommend 5/8 if you can get away with it as far as depth. I had to use a spacer cuz those 6 1/2 were deep, they would hit the glass. Id say magnets would hit the glass but DDD speakers dont have magnets LOL

Can you just clarify this for me... You cut some metal out of the rear towers so there is a hole into the cabin to make the subs work? Did you cut this hole a specific size to try and make it a tuned port or just chop out what looked about right? I am just curious because I have never been able to get any bass out of the rear speakers whatever I put in there, from subs - 8inch full ranges - 6 inch full ranges, etc..
