Turbo II have an external amp??
Does it?
I was just wondering.
I have an 88 T2 with the factory double-DIN clairon deck. I was wondering because I went to hook up my stereo ( I hadnt done it before and my friends were over to help me) and it worked fine, but no sound.
I hope it doesnt, but I think it does. Also, if is does, where is it at? I had my friend look at it and he thought it did have an external amp and he looked for it and thought he found it under the drivers side dash.. anyone know? Thanks in advance

Yeah the 3 different locations for factory amps are drivers dash behind front speaker (usually is the Pioneer stereo one tho), inside the right front speaker enclosure (if applicable). And in the vert behind the drivers seat in the spare tire cover for the headrest speakers.
The left side dash one is usually for door speakers if you have 'em. The right side one usually drives the front speakers.
By the way unless you know exactly what you are doing, Have a true professional do it, cuz when you dont know what your doing and you get in there and screw it up and want a pro to fix it. They will charge you more to do it right and fix what was messed up. Or at least I would, have to justify the extra time...

In my 1992 there was an external OEM amp under the passengers side dash. I just plugged the cables together bypassing the AMP and it worked fine. If you have 6 speakers (rear, door, dash) you'll need to use an external amp as the radio only has 4 speaker outputs.

ahh
1992?
Well, I have the 2 dash speakers and the 2 in the shock towers.
I guess I need a relay or something to disable the external amp. My stereo powers on fine its just theres no sound.
How hard is it to wire this in and bypass that amp.
Can I just take the amp out totally if I am going to bypass it?
(every little pound counts)
Also, where is this amp? I think its under the drivers side dash.
I went to circuit city and they said that the amps are under the storage bins and they wanted to charge close to $100 to rip apart the carpet and all that crap. Someone please help

Easy way to tell - compare the wire colors behind the radio to the speaker location wire colors. If they match, then no in-line external amp.
I'm assuming your using a wiring harness adapter and not splicing the wiring harness? If not get some from crutchfield.com.
Another trick is to de-sauder the OEM speakers harness adapters and sauder those to the new speakers wire connector.
Bypassing the amp is easy (assuming you have one). It has 2 plus that connect to it. Just unplug both of them and plug them together. Remove the amp and your done.

Thanks, vaughnc. Does anyone know where the external amp(s) are in my car? I have everything working but no sound to the speakers because of the amps. If someone knows where they are located that would help a bunch. If it really is as easy and plugging 2 wires together that would be awesome. Thanks
