transmission trubbles
undefined
hey everyone ,
im new to to this group and im new to rotorys i just recently bought a first generation rx7 with the 12A motor and i beleave that its the GX model? has all the extras includeing the rear disk breaks even though its an 82. im haveing transmission problems though, the transmission runs great in ever gear right up intill i try rideing the engine down a hill in second and forth gear. i just jumps into nutural. also when i put the engine in reverse i have to hold the shifter in reverse other wise it will go back to nutural as well. a cupple people that know cars told me that they syncros must be gone on the gears. but wouldent a blowen syncro just make it grind into gear and cause the need for dubble clutching ? i really need some help becasue i want to have my car on the road with in the next month for some sweet summer time driveing and proberly a road trip or two
. any advice would be greatly appreatieted. oh and just to let every one know i do know quite a bit about cars i usely do all my own work and am willing to do anything to get my new found toy on the road for good.
if u want to reply to me directly my email address is. mbwatson92@hotmail.com thanks again every one hope to hear from you soon

switch to synthetic oil in the tranny and cross your fingers!!!if that doesnt work!time 4 a rebuild or new tranny=( (getting a used one would be a lot cheaper then the rebuild! also it is noe hard to swap it
hey thanks for the reply i was serisouly woundering if any one would give a crap about my question lol . yea i dont see synthetic oil helping much it could be worth a try though. looks like ill be rebuilding the tranny.
i was looking at a bunch of manuals i got for the car though and it looks like a pritty straight forward operation. its just a basic 5 speed gear box nothing to tircky. im going to have to find new parts for it though wich i think will be tough. im not looking forward to phoneing mazda and seeing how much it would be... i phoned the other day about getting a new stearing box and they said it would be over a grand after every thing was said and done. i tryed useing the ajuster screw on top of the box but it wont ajust enough to take all the play out. looks like ill be going to a wreckers or something and pray i can find one in better shape then mine.

I did one this winter, I know. For all the spare trannys out there, I suggest doing that instead. Check the forsale forum here. There are many parts which are obscenely expensive to buy new from Mazda, steering racks are only one.
3) If your steering has play, it's probably a bad inner or outer tie rod.
