I was looking at some custom installs of FD touring model stereos and I noticed them with the towers still installed. Can the towers be taken off so they no longer protrude through the rear hatch cover? thanks for the help

 

Physically yes the towers can be removed, but it's one big piece as shown in the pic below; I'm not quite sure what removing those screws does on the top section.
