Are these seats R1 seats??

Anyone know if there were cloth seats like these available stock in a R1? I thought they were all suede

Those are definitely the base seats. However, Mazda did send out R1's with base seats if the customer wanted it... my car is an example of this.

I stated suede as a simplified explanation since most.people know the texture.

Technically the R1/R2 seats are cloth as well. I think it's called Alcantara. But it's not suede.

You sure this was a MAZDA accomodation? Sounds more like something a particular dealership did to make the customer happy.

Actually they are not Alcantara (I wish, they will last longer) or suede. They are faux suede which is an imitation and very thin.

I am just trying to say that if the car has base seats that does not necessarily mean it's not an R1... if that is what he is in fact wondering...

Mazda actually has a database that you can put the vin and it gives you all options/color everything else about the car. I registered my car on there before I bought it.

I don't believe Mazda allowed any special ordering, no R1s came with base seats. These cars are kings of parts swapping, even when they were new.

Please help identify this car's equipment pkg

Ok, I was thinking about buying this car but I don't know which equipment pkg it is.
Has the rear spoiler but no R1 front lip, has strut bar but not R1, has rear strut bar and no bose speakers, has no wiper on back, has cloth seats, has R1 storage buckets in back. Sorry if this is obvious....not up to speed on equipment pkgs.

Does it have the dual oil coolers that came with an R1?

R1 came with a factory front strut tower brace. Doesn't mean someone didn't swap for the aftermarket one in the pic.

Glassman, that sucker has cruise control. Coupled with the base seats and no rear wiper, I'd say it's probably a base model with the rear wing added on.

Off-topic, but does anyone know why my earlier post in this thread (still quoted in posts #4 and #6) was removed? Can't imagine it broke any rules.

I factory ordered my R2 .. I didnt have choices. Now dealers did lots of swapping. If you test drove an R2 in 96-97 then if it was a '95 R2 (very rare) it had sat on dealer lot since end of '95 (US spec '95's were a short prodcution run in October I believe) so lots of time to flip parts.

My VIN comes up as an R1 and it has cloth seats. Granted, I more than agree that it could have been swapped out considering I am certainly not the original owner. I do have the spoiler, cuise, and strut tower brace, but no R1 lip. (I think I just need a new one, lol)

Actually it doesnt have cloth anymore... I had my interior re-done. Im black leather now.

If that's your car in your avatar and white is the original color...I don't think the R1 was ever available in white. And unless there's new information, you can get a build sheet from MAZDA using the VIN, but it doesn't reflect the option package.

you caught me... its not factory chaste white. My car was red from the factory. The previous owner had it painted chaste. Its not the best paint job, but its not half bad either. I did run my vin. My car is a real R1 according to the build sheet. But who knows how many owners this car has had. I haven't searched, thats for sure. I will hopefully be the last. Back to the seats... It did have black cloth when I got it. Like I said, who knows who did what? Seats are easily interchangeable.

Those seats almost look like the same ones I had in my 88 GTU. Could they be from a FC?

The second oil cooler is probably the best way to determine if it is an R1/R2. This "upgrade" is pretty difficult to retrofit and I'm not sure any prospective buyer of that era, when buying new, would have been looking to request this on their order (if it was even available) nor would a dealer want to install it for you using stock parts.

You can also look at the PN stamping on the dampers since the R1's (if it is a 93) were fitted with different dampers than the base, PEP, and touring models.

Based on what I see this is a base car with a few of the easy aesthetic add-ons/swaps installed.

Regards,
crispy
