There should be a cage around it that came with the CD player. You could fabricate some sort of brace that would secure it.

i have that "cage" it was installed. . . but still wiggled badly. . . maybe they didnt have it installed very securely. i dont want it to sit on the stock bin though. . . it makes the door very hard to open up. . . and about the fabrication. . . im tired of fabrication. hahahaha.

Put the stereo deck on the bottom one and have the bin on the top. That's what I did with mine. But I'm putting 3 gauges on top of the stereo deck anyway.

Damn it, your stealing my idea...(Or am I stealing yours?)

My car came with two headunits in it(One stock CD player and one aftermarket) so I'm putting a good head unit in the bottom slot and using a 3 gauge din panel for the top slot since I need room for gauges.

Sometimes you will need to install a "backstrap" to support the weight of the stereo. If you dont know it's "plumbers tape" (metal stap about 1/2 inch wide with holes about every 1/2 inch or so) which is attached to the head unit and then to a screw behind the dash somewhere to support the radio.

There isn't supposed to be a double din opening. There should be a bar inbetween, making 2 single din openings.

The bar in the middle provides the support to the front of the unit. Sounds like your previous owner sawed yours out.

No, no.

They all have a stick in the middle creating 2 single din openings.

The bar is how you get any support for the reciever.

The FD's stock stereo hole is not a din or a double din. It is actually larger than the double din. I took out the stock stereo/flip-down compartment and found nothing but a big hole. I tried to find something somewhere to install my double din CD player but without success. Finally I took it to stereo shop and had them install it. What a pain in the ***! They had to hard mount it to a custon wood base that they built just for it. It still skips too because of how the ride is in the FD. Hope I didnt shatter any dreams here but that was my experience with it.

Well, I do have had two 93's and they both had 2 single dins.

But maybe Rotorbrain has a point and the '94+ have 'one big hole'.
That doesn't make scense for Mazda though...how do they support the front of the recievers?

My 94 has two single DIN slots separated by the bar in the middle.

I'm probably stealing your idea haha. I'm getting a Saab 3 gauge din panel from a friend to replace my storage bin.

But yeah my 94 also has 2 single din panels with a bar separating both.

well. . . after taking a better look at it. . . i.e. in the daylight. there WAS a separator there. the nutwad that owned my car before me DID NOT take care of this car. the cd player was jumping around like crazy and all the whatnot. it would skip on ANY small bump. like running over a penny or something. hahaha. anyways, i think i have figured it out. i went to advance auto and found adhesive "replacement" weatherstripping. this stuff is like a very light rubber. . . closed cell high density foam i guess. its not TOO cushioned is what im getting at. haha. i stuck this stuff ALL OVER that flip-down pocket so that it would support my cdplayer. i wanted it to put pressure up against it. i stuck the "cage" in. . . secured it in AS TIGHT AS I COULD. then slid my head unit in. . . the head unit wont fit on the bottom like mentioned before. . . BECAUSE, the previous owner didnt buy one that fit the car. . . its a tad bit too long. i had to bend some "bracketry" in the back to make it fit. all in all. . . im VERY happy with my install. the cd player now sits flush in the opening instead of sticking out and sagging to the point that i had to push up on it to open up my little door. . . pocket thingy. it was really pissing me off. im happy with it now and i cant see any reason for it to fail anytime soon.

thanks guys!!!

paul

now. . . amp installation. woohoo!!!
