Sub in spare tire compartment... a Q

I know I know I know this has been gone over many many many times, and I DID search, but after an hour I havnt found the answer to my question.

I havnt been able to find a really extensive guide on installing one or two 10" subs into the spare tire compartments, so I was jsut wondering..

whats involved? should I jsut screw a 1/2" piece of mdf over the whole are, cut some holes, and screw in the subs? or do I need to build a custom box (ie, does it need to have a wooden backing or can it just be the front part)

and second, can you fit in 1 or 2 10"s and still be able to get the spare tire in? if not has anyone found anyway to relocate the tire? thansk guys

ps. any pics of subs installed in that area would be awesome. a link to a how to guide would be even better

Check my cardomain page. It has a step by step process on building a fiberglass enclosure for your spare tire area.

Youre best bet is to do what he^^^^^did its a great job and yes you need to construct a box out of mdf for the best sound what makes a system loud is spl =sound pressue level . so you do not want any air leaks in or out of youre box that you build

he did an amazing job, for sure.

but I dont have that spare tire compartment. mine is in the very back with the tire sitting vertically. the tire sits under the latch for the trunk door

Oh, so you have a 2nd gen! I was going to make one for a friend. It could be made out of MDF for the whole thing. I think you could fit a 10 in there very nicely. It will take alot of measuring to fit it nice.

I hear in the 2 gen FC's that the spare tire space makes an AMAZING place for a speaker...=) But yes it's pretty much the same as making a box for a 1'st gen...just different. ways...same steps, diff. directions and measurements..=)

must I make an actual 'box' though? what would happen if I jsut put a piece of mdf accross the whole back side there over the spare tire and mounted the sub(s)? ..ie, what if I didnt enclose the sub completely and let the body of the car act as a box.

has anyone ever thought of a place to relocate the spare tire to..? :P
