Sub Box is going in the spare tire spot for my dad for father's day

so my dad just got himself an 87 FC and spent a few hundred bucks on deck and speakers and sounds alright, but he made some comment that he wished he could get a sub, but doesn't want it to take up any space...so my mom asks me what we should get him for father's day and BINGO...lights pop on...

so I make a trip down to the local visions and I talk to the head installer about getting one put in the spare tire spot and he has done installs on rx-7's before but never in there...so he gets excited and gives me a good deal. This guy's a pro...he put 18 18's in a hurst and made it look really badass...anyway...goes in on friday...we'll see how it comes out...it's for a single 10". I guess my dad is also getting a can of inflate and seal too for father's day...he just does city driving.

I'll post some pics when it is done to show you guys how it turns out.

please keep us updated. Im still debating on whether I should go with one sub after removing everything like PS and AC for weight purposes.

Good luck, wish i could do that so easily but i have to work AROUND a roll cage but i think i might go with the sparetire hole, and probably put the spare right behind the roll cage and the seats. tell me if this is a good idea.

even being all the way back there it sounds really good...just finished installing it...it's only a kicker comp 10" 125w RMS 250 Peak, but it still hits hard...if you put something big in there it could be really nice...spare tire could be dangerous if left out...buy a can of inflator+sealer and also get a flat tire kit...both are liter and will fix almost anything and can be stored away somewhere

not sure about fc but if its like the fd. your choice in what type of sub will be limited.

most subs require specific dimensions for a box for optimal performance other wise it's like buying a fast car with restrictor plates welded on. common misconception people make is buy a sub and slap four pieces of wood together stuff it where it fits and done. will it sound loud, clear, maybe but when a box and installation is up to the same specs that the speakers were built for it makes an incredible difference.

I'll post a link where this is explained a lot better when I can find it.

but infinity builds a sub/amp and box all in one thing that is for compact spaced cars haven't heard it myself but it's worth checking out.

Those new 12" Subs from Pioneer are worth checking into also. Saw some in the Pioneer Truck up here, and they sounded great. The magnets are almost as wide as the woofer cone, and they are only about half as wide as a sub with the same power handling. Meant for small spaces.
