Style is Best!!!!

I have a question for everybody? I'm new to the rotary world and just bought my first FD its a 93. I want to know what do you guys think is the way to go on the out side, cosmetic wise. Go straight jdm, clean sleeper, aggressive or a nice kit ex- veilside, jun, amemiya, origin etc. it also includes wheels and paint job kandys pearls, metallics etc?

I chose to do the all of that after i finish with the power that i want and its running right. But i want to keep it clean mostley stock except for those parts that i know will help with the handaling and over all performance. Its hard to call a stock looking FD a sleeper because its a fast car stock.

Clean sleeper.

I hope you have deep pockets, the FD has a funny way of cleaning out your bank account, month after month, year after year .

You can't make a 3rd-gen. RX-7 look any better. I think Mazda's designers and engineers did a perfect job with the FD3S. Aftermarket bodykits not only degrade the look of the car, but it decreases the value/collectability as well.

^^^^ So true and I agree, Clean "sleeper" is the best look IMO... maybe a vented hood for cooling and some wheels, but that's all the cosmetics I'd go with.....

44 posts in 2 months.

Tasteful body mods can actually increase partially the value of your car.

I don't think Mazda's engineers did a perfect job with the 93-95 FD, maybe close to perfect with the Spirit R. However, high end Japanese tuners have brought many different flavors to the FD.

In regards to the original topic, do your "thang". There have been convertible FDs, wide-body FDs, Drag FDs, Track FDs, FDs with chrome bling, FDs with ponds in the hatch, hell there has been alot of FDs. So do what is right to you and you can't go wrong (please no Veilside Combat style body kit and altezza tail lights).

Good luck and good spending,

Alex

I'm a fan of the cleanly modified look. Do what you want with it, it's your car.

The most beautiful RX7 I have seen are the ones that have been left stock. Both stock versions by mazda are simply jsut beautiful to look at just as they are with me having a slight preference for the 93.

All other body kits just do not respect the original concept lines in one way or another.

rims and maybe 99spec if you want something a little different. but respect the lines and keep it clean. but first do all of the reliability mods and have fun driving the car!

For you guys that think stock is the way it should stay, it is too modified? It's my car, and I don't believe in getting crazy with the exterior either. What do you think?

99 spec is a clean semi-stock look.

Switch to JDM spirit R body panels, wing, and lights. Then get some BBS wheels (once again Spirit R wheels are best) (silver gunmetal or black depending on the color of your car, you decide but if you go black don't paint the "lip" chrome or silver, if black, go all black) Then tint the windows lightly and it'll look good. still OEM with a sligh twist to separate you from the croud. You could always do somethin glike this too, stcok american spec with a really good paint job.

I think a few on this site would agree with my sense of style but everyone's different so do what you want buyt these look best to me.

That's one nice fd right there. I prefer the spirit r look, or just go 99spec jdm. Those jdm's... are really clean.

It's jsut those 2 lines that the side skirts leave that I hate. Rest is good and yes I believe the car could be lowered just a bit though.

I do agree with you about the lines. I just think these skirts give the body a little more depth leading into the rear wheels as you can see in the pic. As far as lowering goes, I can't, the car already scrapes over mild to moderate dips. I'm running 18x9 all the way around.

I think your car looks good. I don't like the skirts though; replicated brake-cooling ducts just don't make sense to me.

Wow thats a very very sweet ride you have there. Maybe its a stupid question but what do you mean by JDM Spirit R body panels. Whats the difference between the JDM and the Non-JDM other than the front bumper and wing?

Honestly dude, it's your car. I like the Origin kit myself with some nice 18in. Profounds on it, nice and blacked out, 350hp, dialed suspension, Roberuta adjustable suspension cups, have the stock brakes powdercoated black, HID headlights, LED tails, LED sidemarkers. Simple, clean, dialed.

Just don't be like every other FD and go with the Spirit R stuff, yeah it looks good, but GOD DAMN! Everyone has it. Try to find your way of being a thorn...stick out.

Cool ideas guys thanks, I do like the R1 jdm but I also like to stick out a bit. I think I'll buy the R1 and a clean kiy too. I'm a painter so I'll match the bumpers thanks for the ideas I appreciate it.
