Stock Stereo Problems
Please excuse my ignorance on this topic, but I could really use some help. I have a 90 RX-7 convertible with a stock stereo system in it.
Recently my headrest speakers began to work intermidently (mostly not at all), which really bummed me out b/c I use them all the time. I took it into the shop and they told me that the headrest speaker switch needed replacing. They replaced the switch and told me that the amp was shorting the new switch out, so they put the old switch back in and I opted to wait to fix the system. Now that I am ready fix it, they can't get the amp anymore. Which brings me to my problem.
I really want to retain the functionality of the headrest speakers. How do I fix this problem? What components do I need to replace (and where are they located)? How should I go about finding and debugging the problem? I would prefer to only fix what is broken at the moment and up-grade the system a little at a time as I have some extra money.
Please help!
Thanks,
CeCe

Hey CeCe,
I just got a new headrest amp from my dealer about a week ago. My vert is a 91 but I think the amp is the same as yours. Maybe your dealer didn't order or have the correct part number. If you want I'll dig out the invoice from mine and you can have them try that part number.

Mike

Hey CeCe,
I'll send you the part number this evening. I also have the wiring diagrams for the system if that will help. Does yours have the CD player? The pillow amp has (or should have) 4 bolts holding it in. Just remove bolts and unplug the two connectors, very easy.
There is a possibility that the sub woofer amp (located up under the pass. side dash borad could be bad. It feeds the pillow amp it's signal. Tell me what your system has, CD/Cassette, ect and I'll email you the wire info in PDF if you'd like. My home email is mikedodson@mediaone.net.
