stock speaker question

i have a 87 t2, and i've read that it has 6 1/2 and 4" speakers, but when i went to change them i found 4" in the back pillars and 4" in the front dash, do i have 6 1/2" speakers in the doors, or do i have speakers anywhere else?

It's probably a factory option to have 6-1/2" in the back. Mine were 4" too, but 6-1/2" will easily fit with a simple fabricated plastic plate.

8" speakers will fit in the 2nd Gen as well. Just three things to remember.

- You will have to drill now holes since the 8" speakers.
- Make sure you get 8" speakers that have a fairly thin rim so the cover can be put back on with ease.
- Don't use these as subs since the pillars are enclosed and there's no place for air to escape. It will cause the speakers to sound like crap unless you want to do some modding.

My step-brother is thinking about buying my 2nd gen RX-7 as his first car and I made the suggestion to use the back two cargo bays for subs and put plexiglass in the place of the lids. Whould have to do some moddifying for the speakers to work right but it would look nice and original
