Well I think the Autometer gauge looks fine and seems accurate *but* the column mount is another story. ...

It sucks bad and off center even if you can force it to match up. I'm taking it out, putting my original upper column piece back on, and fabricating my own holder. I'll velcro it in there for now if I have to.

I've heard suggestions for making the column mount "work" but none of it is satisfactory to me for a clean look. Really poor workmanship on there part or else I just got a really defective mounting piece.

I agree, super stock look for autometer. I have it, but the mnount, super-suck. I think I can see where the previous owner hot glue guunned it to the air pillar!

Sorry for jumping on your boyfriend Rikki, but it's nice (predictable) for you to stick up for him....

Yes, I was waiting for you to reply...

Ha I just looked at this thread for the first time since my last post.
I guess you don't have any friends Majhik?
It' funny that you got so defensive considering you're the one who got shitty first.

BTW I don't mind I just think it's funny..

I don't mind autometer guages. I just see lots of Rustangs with them thats all.

alright....well

from the gauges PICTURED i like this one the best although it is only 2 1/16"

Rob, I have an autometer pod that i fitted for a 60mm Apexi gauge a while back before using the dual pod that i now use so you can buy that off me if you havent already gotten one and are planning on using a 60mm or 2-5/8" gauge.

The apexi 60mm mechanical gauge i had was VERY easy to read as is the DEFI 60mm gauge that i have now. I dont understand all of this talk about the DEFI being hard to read....i have found exactly the opposite.

I can take you by my car and let you have a look for yourself if you want.

I have had experience with the Defi's, Greddy's, Blitz, Apexi and autometer gauges. IMO the Defi's take the prize hands down. They were the easiest to install(Apexi ties this in installation), with a good price range, and looked best as far as stock gauges during the day. The Greddy's looked good, but I didn't want to have 6 different control units for 6 different gauges. Plus, for me to see the peaks all at once, I my mother would have needed to have triplets because I sure as hell don't have 6 arms. The Blitz does not have a record/memory/ playback feature since it is mechanical only. The apexi's are over priced. They also(from what I have seen) break easier i.e. the sensors.

The NEW defi's work REALLY good at night time. You can't miss them. Also, you don't have to know the EXACT number when it comes to boost. I learned to read metric in about 2 weeks just driving my car. Worked like a charm!

Just because Mustang's use them then they are bad?

Please.... Don't tell me you are some "Brand Yuppie".

If you said you had a bad experience with one, that's one thing. If you don't like them because another brand of car uses them, that's just plain childish. If you want to pay 2x as much for something that does the same function as something else, that's your decision. However, that doesn't mean they are shitty.

Friends? Sure, I have lots of them. However, they don't need to come to my rescue in a message forum...

It has become painfully obvious that you are just being an arguementative Here is my original post since you have mis interepeted it

"The autometer guage is close to stock until it's lit . Then it looks like a tuna can with a flash light shinning on it.
Autometer is a rednecks guage...
Sorry had to call it like i see it.

OK so where in that statement did I say that Autometer guages are shitty. I said they look like a tuna can with a flashlight shinning on it. Which they do. I said nothing about their functionality did I???
I happen to see them on lots of Mustangs..Lots of rednecks drive Mustangs..do then not??

You need to lay off the caffine and quit getting so defensive. I think they look like ****. I suppose I'm not allowed an opinion in your eyes. You are the one who took it personal and attacked.

If you like them good for you.I do not.
I believe that all opinions are welcome here.
You should be a man and just admit that you were just flaming plain and simple.

you guys are funny. i like the dissin', and it makes things interesting...

not a very good pic, but from the looks of it, i have 4 tuna cans in the car. wow! even the carbon fiber tuna cans are cheaper than the other brands. i am currently using all carbon AM guages. i have : air fuel, oil press., intake temp sensor, and boost installed right now. i also have that saab din panel for 3 more guages, but have not installed them yet, im lazy (fuel press, egt, and water temp..)

I have real world experinces with these gauges too.. However, my experiences are probably quite the opposite of yours.

So who's right or wrong? No one. It's all opinions.

As much as I dislike NASCAR racing, I guess all of their gauges are reading wrong as well...

yeah, opinions are opinions. everyone has their own taste.

i think that it is a little out there to say that all autometer guages are ****, because of one or two. i mean, i had and hks and a greddy boost that did not line up perfectly at shut-off like some complain the autometer's do.

if they really WERE ****, i don't think that guys like craig paisley, steve buschur, and MOST of all the other top import drag racers, and lets not forget all the other draggers and racers alike that use these guages....

ps...fd3boost, i like bush beer also, i use it as the cheap alternative.....but wouldn't let it be known to the world...

Just my 2 cents: you get what you pay for. Don't treat your FD to some cheap-*** $30 gauges.

How much do you have to pay for something that reads air pressure? $50? $100? $200?

I just switched from an a-pillar mount to the Tripower dual mount (highly recommended!) and added a water temp gauge to go with my boost gauge. I also changed from an Autometer Pro Comp to the VDO Vision gauges for purely aesthetic reasons. Here's a pic of the boost gauge:

DAMONB, there is some merit in what you said about how much should you pay for something that reads air pressure. Perhaps I should have clarified more: sure, you can buy an Autometer and probably be fairly accurate. But when you have your pride and joy FD, that you've probably spent hundreds of $$ on, why not spend a little more and get something that is of nicer quality? You're gonna buy the gauges once and then you're set. As for the VDO, now that gauge I would respect alot more. They use them in Porsches, etc. The only reason I look down on the Autometers is because I had them before in an other car. When you hold the Autometer in your hand and you hold an SPI in your hand, then you'll know why I'm opinionated like this. Take care bro.
