Stock FD R1 radio cutting in & out

Problem started suddenly a few days ago. Its the original stereo in my R1. After a few minutes of listening to the radio, all of a sudden the sound starts cutting in/out very quickly.

Alternator Voltage is fine on the car.

Is this the head unit going out or an amp? Does this stereo system have an amp?

Thanks.

Is it a Bose system? If it is then the amp could be going bad, if it is not the bose system then most likely the head unit is on its way out the door.

Non bose single din system with fancy casette tape play vintage 1993

I think I'm going to get a decent Alpine and try to figure out how to install this. I suck at stereo stuff and wiring.

Its easy. If you just had a cassette player and the sound was going up and down on the cassette only it could be the heads going bad.

For installation you just use "ford keys", or some use coat hangers in order to remove the factory radio. Then use a metra harness, I think mazda's are 70-7901 but you can have BB, CC, or crutchfield look it up and buy if from there. Then you match colors to colors from your new radio to the harness, and the harness clips in and your done. No cutting required.

R1 did not have the Bose, that came with the touring model.

Get an after market in my opinion.

No, it doesn't pop. It works OK when I turn on the radio and then starts cutting out after a few minutes of use.

I'll probably go aftermarket one of these days.
