stereo system basics
I'm new to the forum. I was looking here to research what the stereo system is composed of, so I can decide how to go about fixing or upgrading mine.
Could someone explain the setup- what speakers require what kind of amps/ohms, or
any other system requirements I would need to keep in mind when shopping around?
My stereo situation: I bought my '93 3 yrs. ago. The snakes never were set up right
(they fall over if you touch them). The radio had been stolen out of the car when I got it,
so I replaced the stock head unit with another. The cd player worked for a while, but now
it turns on, but spits out the cd every time. Even when it worked, there was a loud buzzing
sound from the rear (also with the tape player, which sounds muffled and works, but is hardly
worth listening to now). The radio works fine. I never got to hear the stereo system as it
should be -no rear speakers working or hooked up (?). If it sounds as impressive as it looks,
I'd like to figure out how to fix it. Otherwise, I'll just replace whatever is neccessary to
get a decent sound. I don't care about a big bass sound that anyone outside the car can hear
or see- just for me. I don't want to spend a lot - I just sank 2K into new exhaust system and
hoses, plus I will be needing a clutch, paint job and rebuild the tranny...
ps. Does anyone know of a good mechanic in the SE MI area?

If you want "do it yourself" basic help, check crutchfield.com or call them. I think they have books with all the details.
I'm sure either their website or another one has the same info online as well.
The FD might have an external factor amp that caused the buzzing. On my 1991/1992FC - I removed the exteranal factory amp, pluged the in/out factory amp wiring harness adapters together (bypassing the AMP alltogether), and connected cructhfield's wiring harness adapter to my kenwood head unit (radio).
Since my FC has 6 speaker holes, I'm using an external amp for the rears.
