Stereo / Speaker / Woofer setup for 1st gen
Hey fellas
Just wondering what you guys found the best fit in a CD / MP3 player? I plan on removing the tape deck and ******* toaster sized AM/FM radio. I'm gonna be reworking the entire cars electrics, and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on the most suitable CD / MP3 players for a series 2 1983 RX7 ?
As for the speakers, I plan on replacing the stock ones mounted in the boot with some more high definition speakers, maybe Kickers. (They have an awesome rotary motif on the 6" bass speakers.)
Then in the front I'll be doing a custom side panel on the door, what do you think would be the best size speaker to fit in the space to the left of the gears for the power windows? I was thinking maybe a size 4" regular speaker? Any suggestions or preferences?
Lastly, I plan on removing the center of the back seat and putting in cup holders and a small pine / maple panel for a 8-10"sub right in the middle of the back seats. What do you fellas find is the best size sub for a small compartment? I dont want anything excessive or anything that qualifies as a nightclub on wheels, just something that can play my music decently. I do a fair bit of travelling, so I wanted a good sound system.
My budget is around $2000 ($1100 USD) for this setup. I have to purchase:
2x 6" speakers / kickers for the stock boot speaker replacement (approx $129 each)
2x 4"ish speakers for the front doors
10"ish woofer for the central rear back seat.
and a stereo that can play CDs and MP3's.
Suggestions / comments always welcome.

I have (current set up is temporary, but sounds AMAZING) 2 4 inch Concept Audio coaxials in front ($10 floor special) , 2 6.5 inch infinity reference 2 way coaxials in the rear (55 on ebay), great for midbass!
A diamond Audio Mac Daddy 12, powered by an mtx 6500 D amp (probably about $400 total now a days, its a year old) THe amp powering the normal speakers is an audison SPX4 (too expensive and hard to find for you) about $450 for that amp. THe head unit is a Kenwood exelon 569 ($220, insane discount special)
As ghetto as it is, it sounds better than systems that I have put ten times the work in to designing.

That sounds really good, I'll be keeping an eye out for some of those. How did you mount your 4"'s in the front?
Oh, and where did you decide to put the amp?

the amp for the interiors will be custom mounted behind a plexiglass cover in the cargo bin, but for now, it is right behind one of the bins on the trunk floor. The 4's were easy to install, i put them in stock locations, just had to take out a few screws.
