stereo install in a 86?????????

Hello people ... heres the thing I have an 86 na with an after market stereo .The old connector is no longer there and I am trying to put in a stereo from an 88 turbo (clarion RT 9105C).My questions are what do I need to do to get this to work?Does this stereo have a built in amp?How much power per channel ? If anybody has a wiring diagram for this stereo that would also be a big help. Thanks

well

i would not waste my time with putting that head unit in,first its completly outdated,it does not have rca outputs for seperate amps and it makes like 12 watts rms per channel and thats pushing it.Put a better head unit in and do not waste your time.

I completely agree with loudazzrx7, there is no sense trying to put a stock radio back into the car, when for around $250 you could get a new high power CD player installed that will last you 100 times longer than the stock deck.

Here's something to think about bottomfeeder - I have a 1989 convertible witn 25K miles on it. It was stolen and things were taken from it (including the radio) and the body was damaged. I have already spent $10,000 buying all new parts from Mazda and having the car otherwise repaired to get it back to 100% stock. Mazda wanted $2000 for the head unit alone, which wasn't all that great to begin with, so I did not buy it. I could have bought a used radio for much less but, in any event, those radios were known to have problems.

I too was trying to keep my car as original as possible (and it is now fully repaired - other than the radio - and is 100% stock). The radios really aren't that great and really aren't that important when someone looks at originality of the vehicle. I have decided to add a better sound system to the car, but retain the stock components in case someday I want to return it to stock. This includes using the existing headrest speakers and headrest speaker amp with the stock headrest speaker controls. I will keep the stock front speaker amp in its existing position and just bypass it and will remove the front speakers and replace them, but will keep the stock speakers.

This satisfies my "purist" desire to keep the car as stock as possible (knowing with a few hours work I, myself, can return it to stock) while at the same time having a greatly superior sound system.

Good luck.

Dave
