Stereo Install
Ok -- here's the deal. I have a 1986 Rx-7 nonturbo, i want to replace the factory radio with a cd player -- when i bought the dash kit and wiring harness it looked pretty easy. The CD player came from my 73 mustang ( i upgraded that headunit) -- I got all the speaker wires connected... but i have the power wires left over -- A blue ( power attenna?) an Orange (illumination?) and a Red (12v ignition?) those wires come off a harness -- additionally coming from the car there is a Black wire with a yellow connector possibly the 12v memory? and another blue and Red wire --
None of the wiring combinations i have tried have worked - I can get the CD player to light up -- but there is no display and it does not function... What is the problem ? I'm apprehensive about biting the bullet and taking it somewhere...
I dont want to rewire the world -- I'm a mechanic not an electrician... please help...
thanks

There are only four power wires that you really need. The 12V memory (probably yellow), ignition (red), ground wire (black), and last the antenna wire. Depending what deck it is it may be blue. The other wires are not needed. The dimmer wire will not work, and you don't need the remote turn-on wire. The harness that you bought for the car should have all the wires you need and then some. Just connect them to the wires on the back of the deck and it should work. Get all the color codes. Most deck manufactorers will have them online.

Sorry, you may have to hook up a relay to the antenna wire. Go to any audio store and tell them you need a relay that reverses the signal for the antenna wire. The wire coming out of your deck is a positive a signal, you need a negative going to your antenna.

Thanks raceIndy --
But I did match up all the wires -- however I think the problem lies in the Stereo connector, whoever ripped it out of the last location left some wires unaccounted for -- I think i have the problem nailed down.. .(i think =) )
Thanks for the Reply....

Hook up the aftermarket radio's yellow/memory lead to the Mazda LightBlue/red wire at the Mazda radio plug.
The aftermarket radio's red/ignition wire to the LightBlue/White wire
The Mazda factory Red/Black is lumination (most aftermarket radio's orange/White wire).
The aftermarket radio's black wire is ground... take it to a nice clean ground lead/body bolt in the car as there won't be a ground in the factory radio plug/harness.
The Mazda factory LightBlue/Yellow is the negitive power antenna lead. You will need to ground this with a relay from any non-Mazda radio's power antenna output (generally blue). Wire the relay as : 85 & 30 to ground, 86 to power antenna output from aftermarket radio, 87 to lightBlue/yellow mazda radio wire.
The other two plugs are speaker wires, stripe is positive as I recall.
