Stereo Ideas
Stereo Ideas
So I have a '93 Touring which I purchased with the Bose system removed. Can anyone give me some ideas on what type of stereo to put in? I assume the head unit would be a single DIN with CD and Ipod input but what about speakers?
I have speaker grilles in the doors which I guess would need new speakers (don't know if there is anything in them but if they are the Bose units they probably wouldn't work with a non Bose head unit.
But what about the back speakers? I have two little bins in the rear quarter panels behind the seats, do people put speakers there or do they put them in the rear deck area? Do audio shops have what it takes to mount these speakers? Grilles and brackets?
I don't necessarily want a big subwoofer or anything like that, just a good decent sounding system.
Can I get something that sounds good for $200 to $300?
Thanks,
Jeff

theres a bunch of things wrong with the bose system, in pretty much every car they are in.
1) they break down
2) they cost $$$ to replace parts
3) ultimately, they dont sound that great.
now, depending on the level of a "system" depends on the music you listen to. i can break 4 genres down to the exact components that would rule all. but, im not going to list them, you need to be more specific and really study, do your hw, and price around. trust me, if you shop at like 4-5 different places, you could save yourself your measely 300$. i dropped 600 on a decent level system, ive done 10000$ systems that werent that great (400,000$ rv's).
2 questions.
1) what do you want out of the system
2) how long do you plan on listening to music when youre in the car?
p.s 2-300$ isnt ****
Lloyd
1 more thing, are you doing the installing yourself? i take it no because youre not very sure about anything (no offense)

Thank you for your reply Lloyd. I probably need to clarify a couple of things I said and give you a little more information regarding my intentions...
Initially I was trying to find out where people mounted the rear speakers on a Touring model without the Bose. Do they mount in the rear inside quarter panels or in the rear deck? I was under the impression that the non-touring models mounted their speakers in a certain location, just didn't know where that was.
Second question, I haven't looked but if there are still Bose speakers in the door grilles are they usable or will they need to be replaced by something else?
I know $200 to $300 isn't much, I had to start with some number so that's the one I used. I basically want a fairly simple head unit with a CD player and an Ipod input. I also drive a '95 Pathfinder with a factory stereo and my daughter has a '97 Camry with a factory stereo. That is essentially the quality I am looking for.
The car has a 3" Racing Beat through and through exhaust so I am not sure audio fidelity will be a real big deal anyway. My plans are to eventually attenuate or quiet the exhaust but since the motor is blown I haven't really driven it to see how bad it is.
So any information or ideas you can give me will be appreciated. I don't know if I will install the unit myself or have a shop do it. Kind of depends on what is available as far as brackets and grilles for the rear speakers.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Here's what i would reconmend with your budget and intentions. (i don't have an FD so i dont know about your rear speakers)
Poineer head unit
http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/m...0IB/detail.asp
Ipod adapter
http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/m...200/detail.asp
$140 both together + whatever shipping is.
I have the old version of this and it does it job. I'm going to upgrade soon and my mom wants to buy my old pioneer since her old factory headunit crapped out but they're great.
And i used this website multiple times and they do a pretty good job.
