I'm working on a similar setup, I have the amp, new infinity's and I used the M10000 MB why did you opt for a bigger CPU... I hope to hide everything behind the screen / In the glove compartment... I Also bought a Xenarc Screen and am re- Fabbing the housing for that to fit the stock opening, rather than going the other way around....

BTW Nice Job.... The Only way I could tell the dash was fabbed is the small V at the bottom of the screen, the stock opening is square...

Thanks for the complements. Why did I go with the 1Ghz? It was available.

I was thinking of a setup like this but I was wondering if the cd (or hard) drive would skip when going over bumps causing the music to skip. And possibly damaging the hard drive or at least shortening the life of it. Any comments?

I have yet to have this occur. The DVD/CD player is a LAPTOP component, made to withstand the bouncing. The HD is the same, and some research done on MP3car determined the force required to make the HD damage its heads would be equal to a car crash; not a bump in the road.

To give you an example, I have accellerated pretty good in my car, and "We Were Soldiers" never skipped a beat while playing. My car does put you in the back of your seat pretty good too.

Well, PA has some pretty bad roads, and I have a stiffer-than-stock susp. That's good to hear though. Maybe I'll follow through some more with the idea, thanks.

Bsides if you moun the HD Vertically instead of horizontally the bump would cause a CRC error and the Heads would just re seek the sector.... if you're really worried about it or if you have failures...

I've heard of people having issues with drives on stiff suspensions after 3-4 years... but that's not bad... and by then 120 Gig will seem small anyhow

I've finally pulled the trigger to put the Amp and Speaker in the car to make my setup work, now comes the hard part putting in the cpu etc.... without re-enginneering the center console...

But here's my question, when I put in my stereo setup, I just wanted to hear what It would sound like, and so I attached a portable CD/MP3 Player to it, and now If I switch from CD to Tuner, or back as well as when it's first turned on or off, it gives off this horrific buzzing sound, that I was warned may ruin my speakers.... the noise is not present when using headphones with the unit and so I suspect the amp or remote turn on/off wire needs to be delayed untill there is voltage present from an audio source what did you have to do, to avoid loud pops etc.. as your PC came online !?

Any other audiphiles feel free to jump in please !

Shift *** tall enough for you? Very nice setup, similar to the one I was planning on doing. I was going to mount my in the passenger rear bin. I agree it would be cool if it was running linux or OS X or something other then windows. lol Also, will the CD/DVD's skip at that location? I know with the suspension setup on my car and something located in that location that isn't designed for vehicle use would skip like a mother.

Laptop stuff is designed for cars / planes where high frequency vibration along with bumps is common place... I've run a couple of tests with my stuff hooked up but not mounted in the radio location, worked fine... I have HKS Performer Coilovers.... which are set 1/2 way between hard and soft which soft is supposed to be harder than stock... !? Dunno... didn't Dyno it before / after ..... if that helps

Hey Red, I suggest running Meedio on that. It's like a front end for all your files. One touch and it plays your music or movies and shows box art of what is playing. It would be best to put it in the startup folder of windows, then as soon as you turn it on, it boots up. Try it, you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

With regards to the shifter..... IT IS ONLY UNTIL MY TRANSMISSION GETS IN!!!

My guru transmission comes with its own shifter, and this is just there until I get that in. The transmission should be here in a week or so. I will take more pictures then.
