Hey guys, i have a 91 GTU (im pretty sure) and i was looking at upgrading my speakers and putting in an aftermarket head unit but i found out there are 6 speakers, i have one in each door, the rear speakers on the shock towers and 2 more under the dash. I was talking to my friend and he was saying i won't be able to find an aftermarket head unit capable of powering 6 regular speakers, does anyone have any information on this to help shine some light on it? Is there a factory amplifier somewhere? How are six speakers being powered, and what have you guys done to mildly upgrade your stock speakers

I guess if all else fails you could run just 4.

 

Just run the rear output to the back and split the front with a pair of "crossover's"
I assume the speakers in the dash are mid/high freq.
