Angry Shifter ****

The Damn thing won't come off. i have got a 1988 SE and i would like to replace the shifter **** but the thing wont even budge. does anyone know how to get these things off. i dont want to just try do hard that i break something. Is there a trick to it??? Thanks a lot to anyone with help.....

funny... does the SE have the locknut? my 88 GXL had it so you had to use a wrench to loosen the locknut before you can twist the top off. In any case, if you DO have th locknut, just loosen it with a twist counterclockwise i BELIEVE, then the **** shoul djust come off. If you dont, then just be careful whlie removing it by twisting it counterclockwise.
