Ok, it's time. She is scheduled in Saturday for a complete repaint.

I want to save a few bucks and ensure the best job possible so I am taking of as much of the removable items as possible.

Have I missed anything?

1) tail lights
2) side marker lights
3) headlights and trim
4) signal lights
5) fog lamps
6) front bottom black plastic lip
7) all door window moldings
8) all windshield moldings
9) windshield cowl
10) wipers
11) mirrors
12) sunroof
13) bumper covers
14) gas filler door
15) all body side moldings
16) rear spoiler

Actually 'yes'.

I should have gone on to say that any on the body color pieces that are being removed are getting painted, it's just that they want all of these off so that everything gets an even coat of paint/clear with no chance that the tight areas get missed.

antenna, door handles, windsheild sprayers..

if you wanna get crazy you could remove the plastic inside of the wheel wells. i have overspray on one of mine and it bugs me.

maybe the plastic in the doorjams if they are sprayin them. the plastic peice right in front of the rear tires near the rear jack points. thats all i can think of...

I was wondering about the innner plastic wheel wells, it would drive me nuts if they oversprayed them...good plan to remove them, is it hard to do?

I'll do the washer sprayers and the antenna if it is not too hard to remove, they asked me to leave the door handles in so they can open and close the doors up until the last minute, I'll have to make sure that they promise to take them out before going too far. The good thing is that they noticed the handle gasket and mentioned that removing it was the only way to ensure a proper job.

I guess one other item I need to cover off is the engine flooding problem, and not over-revving it ever, especially when cold! The last bodyshop that did this blew the original engine....

Hey Spacemoose,

I was in your neck of the woods to get an estimate from GT Collision. They appearently do excellant work, but I won't be experiancing that first hand because they started the conversation with 'how much are you willing to spend?' Add to that they couldn't even look at it until July!

I have dropped the car off the Boyd's Collision on Sooke Rd. They seemed to be the most accomadating, willing to wrok with you. I removed most of the exterior trim on the car before I took it there saving about 10 hours of R&R labour charges. The quote for the job doesn't include most of the driver's side. That side of the car, mostly the drivers door, is being covered by an ICBC damage claim. That said, the balance of the car is costing about $2400. This doesn't include any extra work that may be needed if they find a low spot or two. So if your interested, I should know in a couple of weeks what the final tally is.

BTW, I went to all of the following shops, GT Collision, Boyd's Collision, Craftsman Collision, Lima's Autobody and PreTech Collision before making a decision.

You bet, I'll keep you guys posted!

BTW, I just landed in SD tonight, I'm on course up in the Scripps Ranch area. Sure love the weather you guys have down here, only problem would be how many more miles I would put on my car if I lived down here

If you are referring to the one I decided on, yes it is in Victoria. As for contact info for the Victoria location, I'm not at home right now so I don't have it with me, but it wouldn't do you much good across the water would it?

They are part of a Franchised system of shops across North America, if I read you avatar info correctly you are in Washington state right? If so they have a bunch of locations there. http://www.boydgroup.com

Another reason I choose Boyd's is their Lifetime Paint Warranty, good for as long as I own the car.
