Exclamation Shaved Door Handle Info and Suggestions Wanted.

Ok so i've been crawling in throught my passenger side or leaving my window down on my FC for a while now due to a broken exterior door handle. Knowing for a fact that if i replace it with a another one it WILL fail again new or used it'll just be a matter of time. So i searched for pics of FC's with shaved exterior door handles and it looks pretty ******* nice, its pretty sad when shaved it looks so much better since that door handle isnt sitting on the line of the body anymore. For thos of you who have done this I'd like informatino and impressions of doing shaved handles and using actuators or what not to pop the doors. I was thinking use remote door poppers and also have an emergency button on the body in the wheel well or something. Comments, suggestions, opinions? Any info would be great, and dont flame me, its not like i'm putting giant decals and neons on the car. Thanks.

This is the car in question . . .

I've actually had shaved door handles on an ol' car of mine. The way I went was with a stron kit that if you live north (like I do) it will stand cold, and the higher actuators are the best way to go from what I hear. I bought mine 4 years ago on ebay, they were autolocs and they were good for about $200. I had a shop put them in, but all they did was take out the door handle, weld in a piece of metal to cover the hole, sand the WHOLE door, fiberglass overtop, and since it was round, they couldn't put too much on, so they "gel"ed on top of the fiber glass, and had the whole door paint.
Looked nice and only had a 2 problems with it. One was that they didn't do a good weld job on the actuator to the door, and it fell off, so they rewelded it (this time for good). and the second was that my friends new where the pop button was, and filled my car with newspaper one night, from top to bottom, from back to front, EVERYWHERE. but I like the kit.

On a side note, on some (or maybe all) you'll have no way of getting in if your battery goes dead.

Yeah,
This is one of the few reasons i havent done it yet, is there a completely mechanical button i could put somewhere? I guess if that ever does happen i can crawl in the hatch lol.

ive done this to my FB....we started by removing the handles and cutting metal to fit the hole...then we tac welded the metal to the door and we bondo'd/sanded until smooth....once it was smooth i just sprayed it flat black for primer as the rest of the vehicle b/c im waiting for paint.....now for the buttons i have Autoloc's keyless entry which i only spent around $115 on....we also removed the handles on the inside and inserted buttons for activating my doors from inside....for this to work we had to wire in relays....we also welded the door actuators to the door frame so that it would be stable and not fall down from using the door......

when it comes to ur question about a mechanical button u can wire one....u will need a steel cable that can run from the actual lever for the handle and run outside of the car....the difficulty is getting it outside without it showing and without it jamming to where it is useless.....for me i just upgraded to a optima battery so that it doesnt drain that fast and i dont always activate my alarm so that the battery cant drain....but if it does...plan to pry open the hood and get a jump....

shaved door handles are a pain in the ***... i've had them on my 1991 celica for almost two years and they usually will work like they are supposed to until you really need them too (like you are on a date) and then they don't. this is the last car i'll put a sdh kit on. it looks cool but it's just not all that reliable.
