Scratched R1 Lip??
I bought an R1 lip about a month ago. The lip was from a forum member. It arrived pretty beat up. I decided to resurface it to fix as many scratches as possible. I had good results so I decided to post a small how to for those facing the same problem I had with the scratches.
supplies need 360 grit wet/dry sandpaper
"Plasticoat" Black sandable Primer
"Plasticoat" Black satin /gloss(which ever you prefer)flexible trim spray
These should be obtainable at any automotive store
step one...Sand down the scratches with the sandpaper the best you can. Make sure to know the burrs in the rubber.
steo two...evenly spray the primer in nice flowing strokes on the lip. Do about 3 applications before setting it down to dry.
step three...Sand the primer down as smooth as possible without going thru the prime layer
step four...Clean offthe primer dust with a paper towel.
step five...repeat step two again.
step six...repeat step three
step seven...repeat step four
step eight...now you can spray the lip with the finish coat of Flexible black spray.Apply in nice smooth even coats. Hold the can apx. 5" away from the piece. After each application hold the can upside down and spray it in the air till no paint comes out. This will clear the nozzle and prevent drips and paint boogers. You can do as many coats as you like. I would recommend at least three.
There you have it. It will look better than new when finished and it will only cost you about 2 hours and $20.

I doubt it will last that long. It most likely will scratch easily. But it looks good right now. I'm going to be swapping front ends in the near future. So this is a quick fix.
I could be wrong but it is only paint. Besides like I said It looked like **** when I got it so anything is better than what I had.
Just back into all parking spots and you'll be fine.. Ha

Yes It most likely would but the primer is used to fill up the scratches. By layering it up then sanding it down. You are putting on a new surface that you can keep building up. Spraying them will only re color them. It won't take out the scratches. That is what the primer is for.
