honestly you dont want to do that. From what i have learned at the collision center. The water will seep into the paint and cause problems later. Also sanding is not the way to go. Get a bucket of water some 3m scuff it and a box of red scuff pads and go to town till the clear is off the car.

Hmmm not sure what collision center you heard this from, but wetsanding is the prefer method over dry, its faster and the paper lasts longer.
As long as you take the appropriate steps before priming/painting you will be fine. Depending on how far you went thru the clear/paint/primer you might want to scuff it up again to be sure of no rust, bust most importantly you want to properly prep it by washing, drying after each step, then before you paint do a quick wipe with a grease/silicone/etc remover, for example LIMCO 203, then go over with a tack cloth to pick up any debris or fibers. Pretty much those steps should be followed pre-priming then pre-BC/CC (but not between the BC/CC) as you must follow the flash times typically 15-30 between the BC and CC.
