s5 shift **** problem!

OK, this is getting ridiculous. I can't get the stock shift **** off of my vert, and I have tried everything. Isn't it supposed to twist off just like every other shift ****? Every time I twist, the entire shifter does as well, and usually what ends up happening is that the entire boot twists off along with the ****. I've tried clamping the boot while twisting, but the **** won't even budge when I do that.

It IS supposed to twist off right? Or am I missing something? All the leather is starting to peel off the **** now, as I've just tried to get it off with pliers.....

the shifters are 2 piece with vulcanized rubber holding it together, i think you've managed to break the rubber holding it together and it's just spinning, you need to get a vice grip or just remove it and do it on a bench
