Running a sub reversed?

Ok, so heres a question for you guys, Ive got an alpine type R sub to put in the RX-7 but due to space Im thinking I might mount it reversed (upside down, with the magnet on the outside of the box. My question is, does anyone advise against this, and also since im flipping the cone around, I reverse the polarity to the woofer right?

I'm not understanding...how does putting the magnet on the outside of the box save space?

If you are trying to save space, why not build a box similiar to a truck-wedge style woofer box? It might not thump as well with small box, but it will still thump nonetheless.

Well the speaker including the magnet takes up at least .05 cu ft in the box, and when its installed upside down you not only get that .05 cu/ft back but also another .05 from the cone increasing the volume. With a 10" sub that only needs a .5 cubic foot box this may help.... For me Its just that Im trying to hide it completely and it would work the best that way.

Yup, you are fine to run it reversed, and you are right about reversing polarity to keep it in phase.

In agreement. It will take less internal space, but allot of external space.

According to the installer of my system into my former durango, reversing the sub such as that will not give you the subs full potential.
