roof scoops?
I'm getting ready to start the bodywork on my car, and I was thinking about tossing a roof scoop on, I can make one out of fibreglass, so aquring one wouldn't be a problem, but the only thing im' worried about is the actual design of one... I know they're popular with rally cars, but i can't seem to find any good links to the physics behind a well designed/implemented roof scoop, all the links in google appear to be cheap, 50 dollar tape on ones... anyone have any good information/links?
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you see any other scoop on the top of the car, it's an Intake for the midengine or some intercooler.
If you put one on an FC, you're a ricer, and you need to be slaped.

I thought pregout (sp?) used a roof scoop that was basically a funnel, it started out wide on the front and was open all the way though.. to help with the airflow over the top or something... perhaps i'm wrong, though....

DBoty311 - I believe you, but i'm annoyed at the lack of data i can find on benifits/drawbacks of them.. normally if you reasearch something for a while online, you can find out most of what you need to know, but like I stated above, all i can find is cheap *** rice "tape on" style roof scoops.

OK, It is competely stupid to add a roof scoop to an FC unless you have Lexan non roll down windows and all the dash and vents removed.
The reason why the Rally people have it is because a car can get pretty damn hot with all the windows up and no ventilation. The scoop pushes fresh cooler air in.
Unless you plan to remove your sunroof and make it functional it is just a Fast and the Furiously Rice mod.
Mid and rear engines have this to help get air to the engine since it is a struggle for them to help alleviate heat or cool an intercooler due to it being in the back.
In the end
DON'T DO IT OR THE RX7 CLUB WILL KNOW ABOUT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with a functional roof scoop. And no, not all roof scoops either feed the intake plenum or ventilate the drivers compartment. On the Bentley XPSpeed8 (2002) the roof scoop actually was the cooling for the rear brakes. for 2003 they migrated towards individual scoops above each rear wheel a la F1 brake ducting horns. When I spoke with the designer of the car he said there were no gains in the move nor losses. I prefer the car with the roof scoop myself though. If you don't think that car is rolling sex then yes, you are a fool and not an autophile.
