Just did this myself and it turned out great. Ordered from Auto Interior and Upholstery--Leather Seat Covers and Molded Carpets and got the mass backing option. There is also a "closed loop" option if you want to match the style of the OEM carpet.

Ordered and had it 3 days later. Fit is very good.

 

All aftermarket carpet companies get their carpets from ACC-Mats. I confirmed that when I had issues with my first carpet.

Mine fit about 6/10 and required a LOT of cutting

 

^ Well, zero fitment issues with mine. The mold was spot on so I don't know what to say. There was a decent amount of excess to trim but that's not because of the mold, it's that they leave extra on the edges as a safety factor. I knew I'd need to trim the excess off but that was easy. Where the mold needed to fit, it lined right up as expected.

So, I'd give it a 10/10 for the mold.

 

I would attribute this to terrible quality control. It would have been quite impossible to not spot the huge patch of carpet missing on mine. The mass backing missing in huge spots would have also been terribly hard to miss, if anyone had bothered to look.

 

I think it would be easier and maybe worth the little bit of extra money to have something done custom.

No need to. Order from the source I posted and for $200 you will have what you need, a high quality piece of molded carpet.

 

Well where you had something that fits perfectly, I had to cut a substantial amount of material out of the center of the carpet.

That is exactly where I ordered from...and the source is ACC Mats. I already confirmed that with ACC Mats.

AND

No matter how I manipulated the carpet, the foot "pad" for the pedals was crooked.

There is about 8 inches of material that was overlapped underneath the dash towards the front and about 6 inches, tapering down to about an inch, cut from the shifter hole all the way to the back.



The footpad is obviously crooked as well.


Oh and another thing, I had to cut about 4 inches of material away after the hole for the hatch/fuel release was cut.

 

I see in your other thread where you ordered last from auto-interiors.com and seemed to be happier but I guess not.

Before I ordered, I did a good bit of research so I knew I was going to have to cut away material from the edges. To me that meant all the edges as in the door sill areas and the footwells. I'd rather have too much carpet than not enough. It says this in the install instructions on the website and I saw it in the install video so I wasn't surprised.

The important part for me was the mold matched the body pan and it does. I left my carpet out overnight so it could "rest" and take shape so maybe that helped me too.

And finally, for $200, it's a great buy. For that price, I don't mind doing a little extra work like trimming the edges. If one wants OEM fit, then order OEM and pay the price. I don't think it's even available anymore, but I would guess Mazda would charge about $750 or above for the OEM stuff. A little hassle is worth the $500 savings. I say put in some floor mats to cover up the footrest pad and call it a day.

I even cut the rubber backing off with it to add a little more insulation and deadening.

 

Ok cool. Im just trying to get it mocked up and some holes cut while I wait for my Quiet Coat to come in. I was thinking the tranny tunnel was a little high but well see in the morning after I add the foam.

 

+1 on reusing the foam.

 

I suggest removing the foot rest pad. It will cause the mat to slip around a lot. There is a sticky adhesive / stitching used to attach the pad.

 

I am reviving this old thread. I recently ordered the ACC carpet. I pulled it out of the box and looking at it I don't think it is close to OEM. I checked with the local Mazda dealer and confirmed new OEM is not available.


Are there any other options? Is ACC the only new replacement carpet option?

Very happy with the way it looks. Went for cut pile "black" versus loop.

 

I've replace carpets on 3 other cars prior to my RX7. In every case when I compared the old carpet versus the new stuff they were a fairly close match in appearance, contour, etc. The stuff from ACC just looked like it was going to be "loose" or not fit well. I decided to put the old original stuff back in. It was not horrible to begin with. I just figured as long as I was pulling it out to put in sound deadener I'd replace it.

As I stated before, ACCMatts is where all aftermarket companies get their carpets.

They're cheaper than any other site, but still the same shitty fitment.
