Replacing Door Handles

I am getting ready to go buy a new door handle from Mazda for my 94 RX-7.

Anyone have a good walk thru on how to replace this item?

Also I want to confirm the part I need. From looking at the parts list and illustration I believe I only need part #58-420. Please let me know if there is another part I need as well.

Thanks in advance.

I got to ask why are you replacing your door handles? If the exterior metal part is still in tack I may be interested in buying them from you. I need a set to make a mold out of for carbon fiber versions.

Anyway to remove the old handles,

-remove the plastic cover panel on the inside of the door, it is located directly behind the handle. Just pops off.
-remove the 2 nuts that hold the handle in place
-you can now pull the handle away from the car about 1-2 inches. reach behind and unhook the 2 metal bars that are attached to it. One is for the locks the other is for the the door release. To unhook them you rotate the plastic clip at the top of the bar. On my car I think one was pink the other white or yellow.
-you also have to uplug a set of wires that hooks up the othe back side of the keyhole. i think it's for the keyhole light. you can remove the white plastic assembly from the door handle or if you want to unplug the harness it's behind the door panel. The wire itself is held in place by clips in the door.
