Repairing cracked lid on map pocket
Anyone have any experience in fixing a crack on the lid of the map pocket on the driver's side? I know a replacement is pretty pricey, so I'm trying to salvage what I have.
Other than the old school method of crazy gluing everything, is there a better way to make the look better?

I'll give you my experience. Repairing the crack from the underside of the lid is the easy part. Id use a soldering iron and do a stitch type pattern across the crack and then backfill with some abs cement. Made mine very stiff with no flex. Now the crack on top was tough. I tried to run a small bead of abs cement across it to fill in the low spots. Let it dry and then sanded to try and get smooth. Well, I never got smooth. After repainting it the repaired part is very obvious. I haven't given it another try with anything else yet. A plastic putty was a suggestion someone else gave but not sure if its recommended for abs plastic which is what the pieces are made of. Anyways, hope this helps.

I actually repaired that thing twice. Fairly easy to repair but to keep it that was the trick. The first time i glued (I think it was epoxy) a piece of plastic to the bottom (for support) and then added epoxy to top to fill in the crack. Let it dry, sanded it down and the painted it with black bumper paint. Worked out great but then it cracked again. The second time I did the same thing but I actually wedge a thick piece of plastic under the crack for support. The only problem is I can't open it anymore. Which is fine with me, I don't carry a map (I have GPS), I tried to put change in there and it rattles to much, and my sunglasses done fit in there anyways. It's been like that for 2 years and still looks perfect.

Thank you both for sharing your experience. I think I'll try a combination of both - abs cement on the bottom and then epoxy on the top so I can have the smooth finish.
SinSFDream - Did you use a glue gun and then abs cement? I didn't understand what you meant by soldering iron.
Nero - Your lid looks picture perfect. Is the black bumper paint just regular touch up paint for your car or is it from somewhere else? Also, I need my lid to work so my wallet can hide there (and away from my wife)! :-)
