+1 I'd like to get my VR repainted either obsidian or IBM....

I have a feeling it would be in the $8k+ range, though...

A lot of it depends on WHERE and WHO paints your car. If you get some small shop in the middle of no where then its going to be cheap, but if your getting a well known painter who works on exotics in say orlando or LA then its going to cost more.

Had mine painted a custom red with gold pearl, door jams and a good amount of body work for 3200 from a guy who does all the hot rods and high end stuff in southwest florida.

Most of the FD's I paint are between 2500 (very little body work, no colour change) and 5K.

But just go to a reputable shop **who stands behind their work**. We've been here for over 30 years and no matter how much detail or time (or money!) you spend on something, things can still go wrong in short order. The key is finding a place that backs up what they do.

Body work can be expensive, and great paint work can be nothing but. That being said though, you can easily overpay by going to a hyped up shop with an ego larger then their list of accomplishments. I've seen shops in toronto quote customers 10, 15, 20 thousand dollars to paint their high end car and they'll fill the guy's head with all this misinformation trying to get in his pants for the job.........yet they drive 2 hours out of the city and end up at my shop for half the cost and the same or BETTER quality. As long as you find a shop that will stand behind their work, and is capable of the level of quality you're after - you're golden.

EDIT: Excellent example too....a "high end custom" paint shop did a job on a customer's FD. Nice clean red machine.....had some damage but the customer was also concerned about the colour match from a previous repaint before he bought it. They charged him more then enough to do the repairs, and were going to use their mad cuztam skillzuh to match his paint for him............................................... ....didn't match any better then before. Give the cust. the car back and they tell him too bad, but the customer can pay for materials to spray it again and they'll "give" him the labour for free. The high end price should come with high end service - that's not high end service. Car's currently in my shop getting a complette re-spray.

what do you mean exactly by "stand behind thier work" like a warrenty? fix imperfections if you spot them without charging more?

Yes, warranty.

Fixing up a spot or things of that nature a GOOD shop should do because you didn't pay to have the spot on there, you paid for good paint work. But I'm saying that even with top notch material and a properly executed paint job that problems can still occur and finding a shop that will fix any that do is key.......because if they're not willing to, then you'll be left in the dust should the unexpected happen.

I agree, i would pay the extra couple hundred bucks and take it to someone with a good reputation that stand behind their work .. cause believe it or not with these poor quality half assed shops it looks awesome at first sight but then when you go to look at it carefuly ... yeaaah.. An even if youre not too picky when it comes to paint work theres nothing better than someone else's eyes to catch any defects... "oh did you see this", "oh did u see that" "how much did you say you paid again"
I hate that.

I found a place that will paint my 7 (everything) TGM for 5k. Its supposed to be an excellent shop though. I think with paint, you should either go all the way or dont bother.

^^ Agreed. Half *** paint jobs will look it. Do it right, or don't at all.
