Removing stock deck?
removing stock deck?
hey guys whats up, i just got a brand new sony explod deck and i want to change it, but i really having a hard time removing the old deck, it's like impossible to do there are screws inside the console, can anyone help me with this or show me step by step,or have link to pictures to helping me? i really appriciate it thx.
Pull really hard. There are rubber studs in the back of the radio that get stuck on a mounting brace. If you can get one person to hold the din keys while you pull on the deck it will make the job easier.
'93 3rd gen. Can't get head unit or CD player out. Done this successfully before on my previous 3rd gen. It was difficult then because of the rubber extension cone at the back sticking in the guide hole there, but I eventually got them out. This time -no such luck. I have the removal tool and have got both of the units out approx 1/2" but then they just stop. I've pulled them both very hard but with no success. When I pull them they give a little bit (say 1/4") and the sort of "spring back" after I stop pulling, which sounds to me like the rubber extension cone giving a bit and then springing back. Spent about 2+ hours yesterday trying to get them out! So they (and I) are well and truly stuck!
They are likely the original units so they have had plenty of time for the rubber cone to deteriorate somewhat, become sticky and cause it to stick tight.
I figure worst case (drastic!) I go into the head unit from the front, pull out the contents (it's not working and is the item I'm replacing anyway) and eventually get access to the back panel so I can deal with the rubber cone issue. This is a wrecking job but might work, but also it might not!
Alternatively is there a way I can get to the back of the units by removing the dashboard or other fascia panels, etc? Sounds like a big job but still might be the easiest way.
Anybody have any ideas or similar but successful results. Help would be much appreciated.
Thank you. Dave
