I am removing the trim out of the rear of my FD at the moment and i have a few questions with some pics:



1) How do you go about removing the top plastic part of the boot, is all the tubing for the rear washer jet under here?



2) What is this button on the rim of the boot, not a button exactly, sort of a soft round rubber... thing?



3) What are these little metal nobbles all over the boot floor, normally with a rubber cap on?



4) To remove the rear left and right trim that the storage compartments are based in, does the strut brace need to be removed, and i assume that is entirely safe to do so?



5) Where does the water pipe from the washer thing go? to the left of the boot and around? I want to remove that to unblock it.

Just did this last night. You'll need to loosen the bolts on each end of the strut bar and tilt it out of the way. First you need to remove the cabin trim at the back corner since it covers a few snaps that hold in the trunk trim. There are 2 snap-ins in the jack compartment, 2 screws into the trunk floor as well.

Take your time and be careful. A slipped screwdriver or busted clips are no fun.

#2 is just a plug to keep dust and dirt out if there.

#3 those are rivits. I believe they hold on various heat shields and sound pads.

#4 Removing the brace makes thing much easier. There is no problem removing the brace while the car is stationary and on the ground. Remove the bolt through the brace...not the three around the shock tower.

Thanks for your help guys, removed everything except the trim from the actually boot lid.

The nobbies are threaded, right? They are the mounts for the bass tube that's part of the Bose stereo system.

ahhhhhhhh now that makes more sense! yes some of them have nuts in even though the boss system was never installed as far as im aware.

Just a crappy Sony MD player at the mo, plan on upgrading all my wiring and speakers when the interior is out and get a decent mp3 HU.

Car model is 95 Type R

Just need to know how to get the interior panels of the boot lid off now. see some clips towards the back but nothing at the front around the boot light

Updates.

Im trying to remove the rear washer nozzle, how is this done and is it easily replaced? Can i go to halfords and get any new washer nozzle as i think this one is blocked or does it have to be a certain shape/height/angle etc?

Whats this white piece below the rubber pipe in the diagram, the rubber goes to the washer nozzle?



And when i removed the speakers to my car i found this white plug that was not connected to anything, is this for the optional Bose parts and that wiring come standard on every FD or would it suggest i had Bose options that were later removed??

One more thing, when my exhaust reaches a certain pitch i get that god awful metal vibrating sound from the boot which has become ever more noticeable now i have my interior out, so i have been pulling and tugging on everything to figure what could be resonating with the exhaust, the only thing that i found where metal would hit metal is on the fuel pump, the part on top in the big circle is loose and if you push and wobble it, it is easy to make a metal "clink" noise, the white stops in the smaller circles appear to do nothing but hold it on (not very tightly as it goes left and right as well)



Can this top piece of metal be removed safely? Any ways of tightening it??

I'm in the process of ripping my trunk area out too. I duct-taped that top metal piece down so it can't move. Also, the jack handle was making a terrible racket against the wing nut used to secure the wheel chock.

I can't say how to remove it. It looks as if those nylon plugs pull out.

But often buzzes start appearing in aging cars as foam "anti-rattle" pads start to wear out -- like the ones between those two pieces.

As an experiment, try stuffing a rag or something between those pieces. It'll at least help you isolate the cause.

I stuffed several 1cmx1cm foam pads under the top metal plate and that buzzing went, also fixed my hatch rattle with several different methods ( ) so i can now drive with my windows down without it driving me insane, also fixed my blocked rear washer nozzle, very happy day.... oh the small things that make you smile lol

Just out of interest if i wanted to swap my rear seats for storage bins what parts would i need? The bins, the new rear divider, and is that is, or are the speaker panel areas different also??

I have that white plug also. It is not connected to anything. The car is a touring pkg with the Bose system installed and functioning fine. I also have no idea what the plug is.

The speaker panels are different for the seats and bins.
