Remove rustproofing/ undercoat
Thought I would share this tip with anyone needing to remove rustproofing.
Back in '78 when I bought this car, we were so used to our cars rusting out that I got the car rustproofed by Ziebart. Thing is, it was never winter driven and was stored indoors always. That crap always had dirt caked on it and I hated seeing the dirty look in the wheel wells.
I tried everything I had on hand to help remove the rustproofing. Mineral spirits/varsol, WD-40, degreaser, brake clean, lighter fluid. They were all slow and messy. Then I read on a muscle car forum that a guy used automatic transmission fluid. Brushed it on that night and sure enuff, the next evening it scraped right off. Cleaned it up with brake clean and it was ready for paint. The original paint was intact, but my car was painted black in '85, except fot the wheel wells of course.
