Exclamation Recaro RZ seat....is it able to

Fit a fat ***? I wonder......

Seriously, I came across a passenger side, which is a driver side here in SE Asia. (I relocated.) I have a big hip, so my *** is pretty much wide (don't hurt my feelings by saying I got a fat ***, k?)

Anyways, I know there're many of you who've got them and I wonder if the seat will work with bigger body....considering racing seats usually are designed for regular size people. I wear jeans sized 34-36.

If I would fit there comfortably, I will most-likely buy it....tho it's not in the best shape.

Yep!

That's EXACTLY the info I'm looking for. I'm about the same built....6'1" 200 LB wears Arbercrombie-size 34. But, I got big beer tummy tho!

Anyways, it seems like my big *** can squeeze itself in. Gonna go having a good look at the seat tomorrow.

Thanks for the input, papsmagu!

I'd definitely sit in one before dropping that kind of money. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that a Recaro SPG is pretty much the same size.

I'm 6'2, 190 and don't fit into most Bride seats.

Given the way the bolsters are made, you should fit fine. After use they usually flatten out anyways, so from side to side there isnt too much of a restriction.

hee hee hee.

Thanks you guys for all the input!

Natey: luckily for me, the seat would be around 1/5 of it's new or half of used price. :-) Envy, anyone? Still, it's not in a good shape. From the picture I saw, there's a hole at the back and the seller confirmed that the cover is ripped somewhat from getting in/out. Knowing the cover is fire resistance, I don't plan on giving it a new cover (and, of course, I don't plan on dropping 1 grand on its replacement cover either.)

PureRX7: thanks, man. You're probably the one who are familiar with these seats most.

Money: dang you, dude! ha ha ha. I'd love to get in shape too, but getting older made my tummy glow. Simple eating control doesn't work anymore. With my knee and back problems, I can't easily work out. Damn, and I'm kinda lazy too.

7_rocket: ditto.

Went to take a look at the seat. It's def in a pretty bad shape. One small hole at the back near the top of the seat. One 1 1/2" tear on the right side. At the bottom right side where the cover ends, the padding shows (while the cover itself looks non-damaged). The two plastic hole-covers at the back are both cracked somewhat (although still stick to the seat). The kavlar is scratched, but not too bad. All the padding seem deformed. Plus, the color looks fadded. Very bad, right?

God damn wrong, stupid me. Once, I sat my fat *** in, I was sold. The damn seat is just incredibly nice to be in. With my fat ***, there's still some room around my hip. Never managed that even with Pole Position. Well, may be that's because of well used padding. Then, the plus is the ability to tilt the seat. Not only cool, but useful as hell.

So, there's no leaving there without the seat. I paid just a bit over 700 bucks (almost what was asked for). That about half of what is sold used in US., but I only got the 'function' out of it....while you guys can have both form and function! ;-) I'm very happy tho, cuz my car here ain't da seven...nor a high-end car. A lowly hondah it is.

Will take some pix of its condition and post back here.

PS. He told me he sold one black one without the rail and in very very bad shape (one huge rip on the right side) for less than half of mine! Damn, I'd have gotten that one too.

Right after I bought my Spirit R seats from Ramy, Ihor and I headed down to the Deal's Gap event. Ihor is about 6 foot 2, 240 pounds, and he fit in the passenger seat. I've noticed as I gain weight/fill out the driver's seat is kinda snug but still very comfortable. I'm currently about 185 pounds, with a 34 waist as well. I think a 36 would be pushing it, anything more and you need to go buy an Escalade

Pix

Gordon: I know you love those seats! I read older threads and found that you were even looking for a well worn one too. Have you had a chance to compare these to Porche's GT3 seat?

Rich: Thanks!, didn't know Ihor is quite big. If he would fit, I'd be no problem.

Nate: I also have wider hip. That's why I wear size 36 on some cloth brands. But, fear not, I fit.

Here're some pix.
1. the whole seat
2. Tear on the side. Got fixed, but looks bad. The phone is there for a size reference.
3. holes on the Back near the top.
4. Back plastic pieces. Can't tell much from this far.
5. Cracked left side.
6. Right side doesn't sit in with the kevlar.

I can order you some leather seat bolsters (Red or black) from Japan that will cover that rip ($175 each; only available in a pair):

Velcro lined inside

Continue:
1. I wonder how this happened? And, if I can get it fixed. The cover looks fine, but the padding shows.
2. Scratches from Kevlar
3-4. To show the color fade. I flipped the bottom pad up the second pic.

My camera increased the red color and made the faded color looks much better than it really is. I think it looks like what it was when new. You can see the last picture for comparison ... the different between an underside and faded top side.

Will clean it later today. Gonna have to dig in and see if I brought any automotive cloth/carpet cleaner from the US>

Be careful, recaro uses a special type of cloth that can be easily damaged during cleaning. Here is a great tutorial on how to clean recaro seats: http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1850276.

Purerx7: Thanks for the link and the offer of leather seat bolsters. Unfortunately, it'll be too expensive once I get it. Import duty tax here is at least 30% ( I think it'll be a little more) from the price of product 'plus' the shipping cost. It'll probably end up being more than $250. I'll just have someone make it here.

I couldn't find my automotive carpet cleaner, which I saw a few months ago. We don't have Woolite here in Thailand. I'll have to find non abusive cleaner in a market later tomorrow.

gracer7-rx7: I think maybe you're not accustomed with bucket seat? Cuz, this is the biggest bucket seat I've tried. I sat in SPG and I couldn't get out. I sat in Pole Position and couldn't really move my leg much (I wondered if I could clutch).

No, I am not particularly accustomed to a bucket seat in a street car. Only in a kart or a race/track car. Rich's RZ seats were very comfy compared to those but a bit tighter than I'd prefer for day to day street use - but that is just me. Plenty of other people love the RZ seats and they probably are more comfy than the other seats you mentioned.

Hee hee hee, you're right. Not big enuff as an everyday thing. Can't move much in it.

I just remembered that I've sat in Porche's GT3 seats from 996. Those are actually even bigger than RZ's iirc. But, it's tighter around the thighs, I think. And, it doesn't tilt, does it? :-)

Just as an option, rhdjapan sells the cover for $1200 as of today. I was looking for options for replacing or fixing the fabric and considering my CF backing is pretty mint it didn't look like it would be to bad of an option. Then I realized that the fabric isn't very durable and would wear out eventually anyway. Also it costs $1200 per seat! Thats not even including the cushions!
