Angry R1 Seats Are Cloth!!!

It is time to put this to bed. They are NOT SUEDE thay are cloth. Read page 33 of the Mazda brochure for the 93 RX-7, "Inside, the seats get a unique black sport cloth upholstery to keep you in place during vigorous maneuvers".

Sorry just had to rant. I am tired of people saying they are suede!

Indeed they are cloth, i thought everyone knew that? I never knew why everyone on the board reffered to them as suede. I have a suide jacket from back in the day (can we guess how old RedR1 is?) and suede would feel rather uncomfy in a performance aspect. If anyone wants proof they are cloth, stop by and ask to feel it up. . . .(the seats, anyhow)

Thought everyone knew they were suede-like. Still, the important factor is that they are different than the base cloth seats.

Sorry, guess they are psuedo-suede. My point was that they aren't the normal cloth seats found in most cars.

People just refer to them as suede because of their texture and appearance. However, like others have mentioned, they are made of a cloth material.

Crashunit, if it accounts for anything, my passenger/center console looks like someone jizzed on em bc my ex never swallowed. I think that plays a major role in how people view them over time

Can a shop recover with the same material? I have some were on my seats and actually was thinking to have the wear areas covered with Kevlar or something with more durability.

You MIGHT be able to find the exact same material from an automotive upholstery supply house, but you'll probably have to live with something similar.
Kevlar is great for puncture resistance and is 5 times stronger than steel for wire rope applications - but would suck for a seat cover material. One of the biggest problems with Kevlar is that it degrades rapidly when exposed to UV light. Oh, it's really expensive, and cannot be dyed, so you would end up with "straw yellow" colored seats!

Tastes great, less filling. I think it was Soylent Green...
