R1 Front Lip Refinish

The previous owner painted it gloss black but its not looking to good now. Thought I’d maybe sand it down and paint it flat black to look original. Any suggestions on how to do this?

You'll probably have better luck using a plastic safe product like ELO (Easy Lift Off):

You can find it at any hobby shop. After that, use some black bumper spray to refinish it. Some of the textured bumper paints look real nice and are very durable.

Thanks for the info. There's a few rough spots I'm hoping to clean up, just not sure if sanding would help or hurt. Is the black bumper spray a flat black and where can I find it?

paint it flat black? i think it might eventually still peel. just sand it down and give it a good clean, it should look pretty decent after that

Bumper paint is more like a satin. Not flat, not gloss. Very durable paint. If sanded down first I think it would last a good amount of time. Ive used Duplicolor Bumper paint many times. Its great stuff and highly recommend.

Can you get the Duplicolor Bumper paint at the auto parts store?

Yes. I know Schucks and Napa do for sure. Its a lil spendy, but worth every penny IMO.
