just bought a 93 FD- Touring model, and was wondering what i had to do to install a new head unit.

it has the Bose still hooked up, and for now i just want to swap in my old FC alpine headunit & amp.

the question: do i need to remove lots of parts like i did with the FC to go from Stock -> headunit? and what do i need to remove? (trying to avoid cracking any plastics in process)

the bose system has an amp in it so if you hook it up you will blow all the speakers. Get a dash kit, Bose wiring harness or read the sticky for the bose system.

 

To use your amp, you'll have to replace the Bose door speakers and run new speaker wire from your amp to your new speakers in the doors. The Bose system has 2 door speakers, a speaker in the middle of the dash and the bass tube. All of these speakers have their own amps.

Using the Schosche adapter is the easiest and cheapest way to use an aftermarket head unit on Bose equipped FDs. The Bose system will sound better with your new head unit but dont expect it to shake peoples houses when you drive by. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

 

So the bose speakers are at what ohm's wan? I thought they were at 1.5

 

What I meant was he can only use his head unit using the schosche adapter to power the Bose system. If he wants to use his aftermarket amp, all of the Bose components will have to come out and be replaced with aftermarket speakers with new wiring going to them.

 

I was seriously asking a question wan, what ohms are the factory bose speakers at?
