Quick Question
Quick Question
I've read on here a few times concerning the bose system, and I'm a little confused. If I was to take the car to a stereo shop just for a new head unit/cd combo, is this a simple install, or are they going to need to do some major work to get it to work properly? Seems like I've read a bunch of people say how complex the system is and you can't just switch them out or something to that effect.
I plan on leaving the rest of the system stock, just the cd player on mine doesn't work and I don't know if I should wait and search for a working stock unit, or just rip it out and put an aftermarket cd player/ receiver in and get the little cubby insert.

its really not hard to do at all. anyone that does car stereo installs can do it in less than a half hour. i used to do installs and it took me about 20mins if i remember correctly. the only thing you may possibly need to tell them is to hook the light green and black wire to the amp turn on lead. that way they dont have to search for it.
It's actually really simple. I was scared of it for a long time, but when I got down to it, it was nothing out of the ordinary. Just like many other Ford/Mazda premium systems, you just gotta connect an amp turn on lead from the head unit to the turn on lead for the amps. No big deal. Actually, I think the hardest part was getting the old CD and radio units out of the dash.
What about the door speakers? Can I just plug and play a new set (that obviously fits) or again is there more to it with this system? Too bad 6x9's won't fit in the doors.
How is the bass response on the wave system?
I've done it all before, but just with what I've read on here about the Bose system made me curious.
I haven't even heard the stock system as I still haven't put a new antenna on and I don't get anything but static and the cd player is shot, been this way since I bought the car.
And who sells the little cubby if I get a standard din receiver/cd player and have all that unused space?

my bose system sounds great especially for bass. i was really suprised. ive had systems all of my life and decided against subs and amp for the fd bc the bose sounds so nice!
as far as the cubby you can get a standard din pocket anywhere, even wal mart, and it will work just fine. but there are some i have seen on other fds that look a lot better than others so look around.

Unless your Bose factory speakers are blown, I probably wouldn't change them. The FD with the Bose is probably one of the best factory systems I've heard. Especially for an early-mid 90's car. But if you wanted to, yeah, you should be able to drop in a replacement speaker.
I wasn't going to replace anything that didn't need it, but I don't even know if the door speakers work at this time. Time will tell when it goes in the stereo shop though.
