questions about speakers

i've got an 89 GX and just had a couple questions about speakers.

I've heard coaxials aren't good in the back, why is that? what exactly is the difference between coaxials and normal speakers?

What exactly is the advantage of component speakers, all I know is that they come with tweeters and from what I gather, they handle the treble while the speakers themselves handle the bass, am I correct?

I have 2 speakers in the rear, 2 in the dash and 2 in the door...the door ones I have are both blown, and they seem to just play bass, I don't hear much sound out of it except for bass, so are they supposed to act as a subwooferish type of speaker? Basically, what I wanna know is should I get a better speaker for my doors that will handle more bass?

what I'm thinking right now is a set of 6.5 midranges in the back, and 5.25 component speakers in the door, and I already have some cheap 4"s in the dash, i figure the dash ones won't matter too much as long as i don't blow those too. Does this sound like a good setup?

Sorry for so many questions, just wanna know everything before I start dumping a lotta cash into this

FC stereo help comz

Hi friend,

the main difference between coaxials and components is that the components:
- have a separate tweeter.
- usually do have a much better quality deviding network.
- usually have better speakers.

Cos the tweeters are the main actor in producing a good sound image, is good to be flexible in chosing their mounting place.

Send me some pix of the oem speaker places in your fc (if possible also with anmounted grilles) and I am sure I can help you to set up a better sounding system.

Tell me how many bucks you are willing to pay for all the stuffs and what you expect/like from your new stereo system. What kind of muzak do you hear most?

Want an ext. amplifier/sub?

Kind regards
Tobias

whoa, glad to see someone cares, hehe. I listen to a lot of everything, but i guess hiphop more than other stuff. So, i'm looking for good bass, w/o compromising the sound quality, like i don't want the thump w/o hearing the words.

I don't plan on getting a sub, maybe get an amp, but not right now. Right now, i'm looking for good speakers and I just got a head unit, alpine 7871 for pretty cheap off ebay. Speakers I was looking at: infinity kappa’s 6.5 components in the front, or I was also looking at mb quart dsc216mb components in the front. Not sure what to get for the back, 6.5s probably. Speakers, I’m thinking, I’m not gonna spend more than 300 I’d say for all 4.

Sorry, I can’t take any pix of the oem speaker places, but they are near the front of the door, I’ve heard 6.5’s fit, but I haven’t tried yet….but I’ve also heard lots of fc’s have different size speakers in the front and back, the holes I mean…

The kappas are nice sounding speakers, i had them in my last car (volvo 740 gle), for my fronts in my vert i just installed focal 165k2's (which would run you about 330 on ebay), although with either of those you are defiately going to need an amp.... nomatter what they say, the amps inside headunits can't push any power....

I just wish they would stop including them and start making the headunits cheaper (the real pro stuff, 1000 bucks and up usualy, don't have internal amps because they realize nobody's gonna use it)

My recomendation, since the 7 is such a small car, is to just stick with front speakers... because thats where your sound should be coming from anyway, most cars only have rear speakers so that the rear passengers have something to listen to... (and unless you have a 2+2 and know people small enough to fit back there )

I would definately recomend going with those focals, great highs, very crisp, and the k2's have incredibly strong bass for a 6.5 inch speaker. Although they are going to need about 90 - 100 watts per side, so you will need an amp... im running a 2 channel ppi (i think 2240) which runs them quite nicely.

whoa, i missed this thread....so you're saying don't bother changing the rear speakers at all? They've only got those 4" paper cone speakers in there, they're gonna rip so fast when i turn it up....it's probably a better idea to change them into aftermarket speakers at least correct? even if they're only 4" ones?

ok, this may be a dumb question, but if I get an amp to power my components up at the front, it only powers those 2 right? it doesn't power all 4? is that the difference btwn the 2-channel and the 4-channel amp?

i'm kind of a newbie to this stereo stuff
