a question for all the paint pros

well my daily driver is well clear coat is kinda screw, but i have like 3q of the base coat sitting in my room. now my question is could i just wet sand or scuff off the clear on the whole car. Then just re apply the base coat to some of the worse areas then just buff the car and just leave the car with base coat with no clear. Just wondering what would the fade be like and whats the cons to do this minius the car just not being as shiny???

if your base coat is still in good condition then you can sand with a high grit or wet sand then re-clear. there is no point in putting base color on if your not going to clear it. the base coat has no uv protection and will fade very quickly. it would also look stupid to have some parts of your car shiny and some not.

the color woludnt match up any way it would look blotchy new paint wont match something your factory paint exactly even if it is the same color code the old paint has had more uv exposure and time in the elements i would do what 93 fd suggested and wet sand your clear and have new clear applied
