Question about the OEM paint. VR

I picked up some PPG DBU Vintage Red. I'm a bit confused if this is a 2 stage or a 3 stage paint. The Vintage Red came in two separate containers. One was the base coat, the other is a tinted clear top coat. Do I still spray regular clear coat on top of the tinted clear coat?

On my VR, the top coat from the factory was the tinted clear.

so does that mean there is no regular clear on top of your tinted clear?

aeka gsr. vintage red is a 3 stage paint. it's not a mica or pearl, more of like a candy. first you lay on the base coat which is almost orange, then you spray the toner which is the tinted clear you speak of. this changes the base coat color making it vr , then you apply the clear coat.
most vr fd's that look pinkish are from the toner coat that faded.

Vintage red on most cars was a Single Stage paint.

If you ask they may have a color converted to a regular base clear. they would be easier.

close, except that the 92-93 VR did not have a final clear coat. Clear coat was only available on the 94+ VRs.

wow, didnt know it varied so much from package to package. Well I do have a 93 touring and last time I ran a polisher on it I don't remember the pad turning pink so I'll bet it has a clear. I'll use it as a 3 stage. Thanks guys!

no, your statement, taking as a whole, stated that only 94s and up had clear, therefore 100% wrong. Don't try to beat it with a backpedal and semantics, admit defeat and don't be a raging dick in my thread.

Thanks for the backup, Brandon, but as you know from first hand experience I can be rather difficult to get along with.
