Question about FD side mirrors...(Amemiya FD)

When I was over in Japan, I noticed a lot of cars with their side mirrors on the fenders instead of on the door...why is this? Is it because streets are so narrow that they might hit the sides if they're on the door? I just noticed that on the Amemiya FD...they don't come like this on JDM FDs or any RX-7 for that matter do they? What would be the advantages of this? Does it make you see things better? I would think it's more difficult to judge distance looking into a mirror that far away from you.

those are RE Amemiya Aero mirrors... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

the mirrors are meant for racing purposes.
you can bid an win them for like $280 shipped, you got 13 hrs left...

personally though, i don't like them, i think the stock mirrors look better on an FD

No such thing, just improperly positioned mirrors.

As for the mirrors, it just the old retro look old-time sports cars used to have. No advantage of the mirror being in that location, it's just different.

Some would argue that the position of these mirrors gives you more of a "heads-up-display" because of where you look at them. Instead of looking left or right, the mirrors are just a slight glance off center.

Not my opinion but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.

Hmmm, i was pretty sure that would be a plus to mounting those mirrors up there . . . . made sense to me

Well, what I was referring to is the so called "blind spot". There really is no such thing if the mirrors are positioned properly.

Amen.

I think that as revered as RE Amemiya parts are to the rotary world, most of those parts are mainly form over function.
