Question about Airbags for 99+ FD and 99+ Miata..

OK... I have a very important question to ask of you guys..

I want to know if stock FD 1999-2003 RZ or Spirit Nardi steering wheel airbag is same size as the 1999 Nardi airbag..
They look pretty much the same..

And also, if the Airbags from 2002 Protege or 2000-2003 Miata is the same size to the 99+ FDs airbag..

The reason i ask is because I have 1999 Nardi wheel for FD.. but I would like to get the flying M logo airbag... Instead of getting 400+ for the entire new steering wheel.. i thought maybe I could just get the airbag..

Let me know.. if this is possible..

Thanks !

Mahjik,

Thanks for the link... As you might of read the other link.. It still does not answer my question as to if the airbag on Miata, protege, and 99+ Nardi are the same ones or not.. I have done search before posting this.. and reason for posting was because no answer could be found..

Herblenny.. I think they are but I'm still not sure yet. I'll meet up with my friend who has a Protege 5 to compare it with my wheel and get back to you.

I'm assuming you are asking about the Nardi FD wheel?? I have tried.. but Shouldn't have any problems.. what I want to do is just get the bag and replace it with the nardi bag that came with the wheel..

Oh, silly me.

I misunderstood your initial post. I was under the impression that you had bought a Miata wheel and needed to know if a protege airbag would fit.

The humidity is awful. I mean its to the point where even if you go outside, you best bet your shirt will be stuck to your back within a matter of minutes.

Anyway, I have finals on the 8th, I could send it after that. Cool?

Thanks,

Vic

Not at all. I know cutting is needed to make it fit. Go nuts if you'd like.

bringing this back up

Any updates on these steering wheel (protege 5, Mazdaspeed or miata)

I remember a while back silver bullet replaced his stock wheel with the 2003.5 mazdaspeed...

does it really matter how you plug the air bag in (two identical red wires)?

couple of things I found out..

1999+ rx7 wheels and Miata 2001 have the similar airbag.. acturally I think 1999 miata nardi steering wheel air bad will fit to 1999+ rx7..

I'm not sure about the protege.

Also, with small modification, you could fit any nardi mazda wheels to the fd.. I changed out my airbag harness to the Miata airbag harness. all airbags are interchangeable..

Hope this helps..

thanks for the quick reply.

when you change the harness, would it matter which wire goes to which (they are both red), polarity??

I believe you are correct.. both are positive polarity.. I heard that it didn't matter.. But don't quote me on that.. I was slightly nervous when I was hooking it up.. but it wasn't too hard..
