I'm just wondering when i buy a head unit or the reciever. i know that i can not just plug in the stock wire is the unit. do the head units(that say sony) come with a harness for that unit, and then you have to wire the factory wire to it or do you have to buy a harness for the unit. i'm just so comfused someone help me
here is the head unit that i want what will i have to buy to install it
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PIODEH1600
if you look at the bottom it say that it comes with a free connection kit. is this what you need to install it in to my factory wireing harness?

Well according to the site, it should come with everything you will need to install it, including harnesses and adapters. Lemme search through the site to make SURE that they actually have it ofr a second gen RX-7 .
Okay, i checked and they do have both the wiring harness and the installation kit you need, so putting it in will be a breeze. One thing though, if you still have the factory power antenna, you will need a relay to get the antenna to work, or you can make one yourself. You can pick up a relay at www.crutchfield.com or do a search and you can find out how to make it.
Personally, I just have a non-powered window, didn't feel like messing with it.

ok maybe i'm a newb to rx7's but i've been into car stereo for several years now..
now.. what i'd do is:
get that receiver off ebay for $80 +shipping (brand new, 2004 model)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=39762
get a wiring harness off www.crutchfield.com for $12
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FFnzGsc...&avf=Y&search=
the thing with the power antenna.. you just have to find the remote wire that comes from the antenna and hook it up to the remote wire of the receiver (blue for pioneer). Its not already hooked up from the wiring harness because its the same remote that goes to amplifiers. It will prob be the one that goes nowhere.
I hope that helps

Yeah, if you just hook up the blue wire, what will happen is when you turn the stereo off the antenna will rise, when you turn it off it will go down. For some reason we have the ONE car in the universe that has the on/off signal reversed.
Since my antenna mast was broken anwyay, my car is sporting a great new $7 Autozone antenna

Never hardwire a car when you can get the harness. Much simpler, easy to do, and allows to put the stock radio back in if u sell it. I hate hardwiring a radio, its a waste.
