Polishing FMIC
hey guys....
i have the RX-7 fashion custom FMIC. i want to polish the end tanks and was wondering what i would need to do the job. i have a dremel but am not sure what buffing wheels, rouge, polish etc.... to use. these already have a smooth finish so i am assuming that sanding them is not required. please advise.
thanks

Go to http://www.eastwoodcompany.com. I bought their big metal polishing kit, but it sounds like you just need the compounds and buffs. According to the manual that came with my kit, you should start with Tripoli on a spiral/ventilated buff, and finish with White Rouge and a loose section buff. A dremel won't help you much here, you'll need a drill and a mandrel for the buffs.

Last night i started polishing my intake and this morning i couldnt move my fingers..LOL ...I was able to remove most of the rough surface and im very satisfied so far on how it looks. Tomorrow i will start polishing it with TRIPOLI and White metal rouge polish that i will get from homedepot. I dont have a dremel but my dad has a ROTOZIP and that thing broke the conical shape drum sanding bit. Tools i used was a drill, rotorzip, and disk sanding pad. I also bought alot of wet sanding papers. Its takes alot of work but i was very satisfied. I can post some pics if you guys can direct me to a FREE PHOTO HOST like PHOTOPOINT (not free anymore).

djc,
Becarefull when your polishing, i plan to get the exact FMIC.... and the problem with polishing the endtanks on the FMIC is that you will polish down the weld lines.... this may make the FMIC very weak... maybe even leak... Just be carefull im sure its possible just be carefull. All that pressure that hte IC is put to will be enough to break weak welds
Hope this helps some
